Hello everyone!

I'm having a conversion issue with Avidemux.
I record videos with my PS3 and PlayTV.
These videos are in Mpeg-2 and Ac3 format (m2ts encapsulation)
They are 720x576 PAL (16:9) videos

To be able to trim them (remove ads), I use Avidemux.
If I keep copy for audio and video with avi encapsulation, there are no major issues except that I cannot play them on my Archos 101 IT (incompatible with Mpeg-2 and AC3)
So I need to convert them to Mpeg-4 and AAC format.
I chose Mpeg-4 AVC Xvid for the video.
Once the conversion is done, I put it on my Archos which displays it in a "squeezed" format like 4:3.
I've restarted the conversion by changing the settings. I tried:
- PAL 16:9
- Identical to original
- 720x576 pixels
- 980x576 pixels (attempt to widen the image...)

I also tried two other types of Mpeg-4 from the four on the list.

And no results; the image is still in a 4:3 type format...

I'm lost.

For the last info, if I play the video with VLC, it is in 16:9.
If I play the video with Media Player Classic, it is squeezed just like on the Archos...

Could you help me??

Especially since I bought the Archos mainly to watch the documentaries I record with my PS3....

Thanks everyone

Configuration: Windows 2003 / Firefox 3.6.13

    Hello,

    The 16:9 ratio is 1.778.
So you need to resize your video (Resize filter) in Avidemux to approximately 720x405 dimensions. To do this, you need to uncheck the "Lock Aspect Ratio" box.

In fact, it is necessary to differentiate between the image dimensions (resolution) and the aspect ratio (4:3 or 16:9 among others) of it. The second parameter is the rendering you see on the screen, to put it simply.
Take a look here for more information:

    - in English: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspect_ratio_%28image%29

    Best regards

I just read the link in French. Very interesting!! Very complicated...

However, I did not use a filter. The ratio I tried to modify is in the options. Is that where my mistake comes from? Is it always at the filter level that we need to resize?

Yes, that's how it should be done.
