Hello,

I know that the question has already been partially addressed, but before giving up all hope, I'm still going to ask my question!
I have an old mini DV camera and a recent laptop (HP Pavilion dm4). I want to transfer the videos from my camera to the laptop to edit them for a wedding. However, my dear computer has neither firewire, nor express card, nor PCMCIA.

How screwed am I? ;=)
Do you see any solution for me to acquire these videos?
Fnac mentioned a capture card for €150. Could that work (but it's still super expensive!)?

Thanks in advance for your help!

For good video resolutions, you need a FireWire port because if you use the USB port of your scope directly, the video is not smooth. The capture card is almost mandatory, but in your case, you will need an external USB card preferably with hardware encoding and integrated audio to avoid delays. Such a card costs around 50 euros, Dazzle or Pinnacle. Here is a list of boxes

With this type of box, you do not use the DV port of your scope but an analog RCA or S-Video output.
