Find PC video game activation key

Question

Hello everyone,

I bought the very good Arcanum years ago. Having spent excellent moments with it, I've decided to restart a game. The problem: I can't get my hands on it!

So I have two questions for you:

- Is it legal to download this game, given that I already purchased it?
- Since I haven't found the game, I also no longer have the activation key. So before I dive into a potential download, I would like to know if there’s a way to retrieve an activation key? It would bother me to download the game, only to end up not being able to play it...

If it was a recent game and you had lost that game, you could have found a way to recover your activation key through the game's support, but now your game seems to be quite old, so I think the best thing is to download it...

To answer your questions:

- No, it is not illegal to possess a backup of a game that you purchased. (in the case where you use the same activation key)

- Recovering the key for an old game is practically impossible.

Downloading games on your computer is not illegal, as long as you purchase the file and the provided license key...

If the game is still installed on your computer, it's likely that the key is stored in the registry. Otherwise, to find your key, one sensible piece of advice is to check under the couch :D
And as others have said, in France, there is a law commonly known as "right to private copying" that allows you to have a copy of your CDs if you own the original (a law that, incidentally, is being increasingly pushed aside by HADOPI...)

Hmm, alright, so I think that anyway I'm not going to download it because the game is no longer installed, and I just looked under the couch and also in my pair of boots, but nothing!

P.S.: yes, it's quite an old game now, but really great! Hack and Slash like Diablo, combining a "magic" aspect with spell learning and another focused on mechanics, etc.
