PC sound to TV via HDMI connection, problem.

Hello,

I have an LCD screen PHILIPS 37PFL5405H that I connected to my PC via HDMI.
The image is perfect but sound is where it’s failing.
For the sound to come through the screen, I have to select this HDMI device and restart my PC.
Then I can switch between my speakers and the TV to have sound, but after a while, when switching to HDMI, the sound no longer comes from the TV, so if I want to get the sound back I have to restart my PC. Doing this repeatedly is tiring, whereas before, with my old cable (which I replaced because the image was jumping) I could switch the TV sound to the PC speakers without any restart!
Any ideas why this is happening?
I recently had a Windows 7 update, perhaps the problems started then.
I’ve installed the latest driver for my graphics card.
Should I look at the sound card driver as well?

Thanks in advance, if you have questions, feel free!

Configuration: Windows 7 / Firefox 4.0.1

    The problem*
I had to go to the Nvidia panel, and in the section: Change resolution
I then see my screen resolution and right next to it, there is a selection: Enable HDMI Audio or Disable.
    It was disabled ...
I think the problem is fixed, no more sound loss ..
    Keep in touch.

Here is a small example: this morning the TV sound was on at the first startup.
I’m playing on my console on the TV, so I switch the TV’s HDMI, the PC’s sound was off but still on the HDMI device.
Two hours later, I switch back to the PC’s HDMI and then no sound comes out.
    Any idea why?

Do you use the HDMI from your graphics card, I suppose?

Is the audio driver for your graphics card installed?

( you must be wondering what I'm saying, right? But yes, the graphics card can also carry the sound signal if it’s connected via HDMI ;) )

I have a sound issue but I know how to fix it at every boot of the computer.

I plugged my graphics card into the monitor with HDMI, I don’t have speakers that handle HDMI.

I always have to set my sound on the speakers (jack sockets)

To get back to your problem, if you set it in Windows under Playback devices, set HDMI as default to see if it works?

These settings can be undone (even if they’re saved, as in my case) if the screen is turned off or if you change the source.

Yes, the HDMI on my graphics card! And yes I know it carries sound, thanks :p
So, already tested the default playback device, in any case, to get sound on the TV I have to set HDMI audio as default and then restart. But switching between the two devices doesn’t work afterwards ..
Otherwise I don’t see which audio driver? I downloaded the latest driver for my graphics card from the Nvidia site. Installed and nothing changed :/
    Thanks for your response.

What switch are you talking about? I don’t quite understand this switch thing...

Maybe you need to configure something on your TV too ;) like: Audio via HDMI 1 ... I read it’s a Philips, and those TVs are a nightmare for adding something... I’m currently interning at a Gitem, during Philips deliveries we panic when we’re asked to install a plain DVD player ... simple manipulations for sure, but when nothing is recognized, it’s a real mess.

Anyway, try looking in the manual or the documentation built into the TV ;)

    There isn’t really a manual :p
And so the "switch" is changing the device on the menu of my TV. I have HDMI 1 and HDMI 2 for example. I switch devices, I was on HDMI 1 and I switch to HDMI 2 to get the image from the device connected to HDMI 2.
    You see the idea?
What I don’t understand is that before everything worked fine :/

What happened? Everything was working fine until something happened? Is that the question ^^

I just checked my settings and HDCP isn’t supported.. Is that normal? Considering that my graphics card and my TV normally support HDCP..

HDCP is a digital video/audio flow control protocol.

What is your graphics card? I saw you had installed an Nvidia driver but that doesn't give me your card model.

    It's an Nvidia GeForce 9500gs512.
And my TV is a Philips 37PFL5405!
    I admit I'm stuck there :/

Maybe if you reconfigure your TV it would work ;) Try it, it costs nothing ^^

Go to Windows sound settings and set HDMI as the default device if it isn’t already.

    Hi there, friend

    I say it like SolidSnake059
go to the sound manager and set your TV as default
I had the same issue with my LED screen and now no more problems

    Set as default device?
Yes, I do that by default. The sound works! The problem is that I have to restart the PC for it to work. And if I set the sound to the speakers for too long, then switching the sound back to the TV, it won't work and I would have to restart!
And configuring my TV, I’ve searched around but no success :/

You must not restart to switch the sound to HDMI... It should manage itself without a reboot.

Personally, when I switch from HDMI to Speakers, no reboot is needed ...

Yes, but exactly, before it managed itself. Since the update, it has to reboot. That's the problem :/

Really weird, honestly, I’m at a loss here ... :(

And showing disabled devices in this panel with a right-click?
Right-click on the white background, a menu will appear > check: show disabled devices, like I did on my PC ...

It is displayed correctly and I can even activate it. The problem is that it cuts out after a while if I don’t use it enough.
