Hello,
I just transferred my photos and videos from my SD card to my computer by cutting and pasting them into a folder, and less than half of the files are readable.
In Windows image preview, no preview is available, and with Photoshop it says "unknown or invalid jpeg marker type is found."
This has happened to me before, but I'm really stuck this time.
Does anyone have a solution to repair these files?
Thanks in advance.

Hello,
I would like to intervene because I have the same problem and I am looking for a solution by going from forum to forum without any results.
To answer the previous question, for me, there is no difference between the photos I can open and those I cannot open. The error message varies depending on the software: "the drawing has failed" ; "the file is not valid or its format is not recognized" ...
Thank you for your help.

Hello,
To see.
Have you tried transferring them 1 by 1, then 2 by 2… while checking the validity of the files before increasing the amount?
It might be a matter of speed, of transfer quantity (it sounds like incomplete transfers, of data getting lost along the way)?
And what type of reader is the card in?
+ Never delete before checking the quality of the transfer!

Thank you, çyhef. I just learned the hard way that you shouldn't delete anything without checking that it worked properly, but in this case, it was lost anyway since I did a "cut/paste"! I did this from an SD card inserted into a "multi-connect hub" of the computer, as I had always done until now.
Loreen, the unreadable files are JPEG images, was that your question?
What surprises me the most is that the damaged files are the ones that were transferred first, while the photos I can open were transferred last...?
Thank you for your help if you can still do something for me!
Good luck to you, Nath40, and if you manage to fix it, keep me posted!

but if I can't recover the files on the card, do you think I could repair the damaged files that are still on my computer?

Hi,
If he can't recover them from the card, it's probably because there was a problem during the transfer, an interruption before it finished. This means that there's the same issue on the hard disk.
You could always try, but you need to let the computer run all night. It's very, very slow for a hard disk.
Never format the card using the PC, always do it through the device.

Hello,
I see that you seem to be quite the expert in the field, could you help me solve my issue?
I have a stock of photos that I transferred from my digital camera to my computer, but I can't read them on my computer.
I unfortunately deleted the originals from my camera.
The problem occurred after I zipped the folder containing 92 photos in an attempt to send them by email.
My attempt didn't work.
However, when I unzipped the folder, I found my folder with all my photos inside, but since then I have been unable to open them!
Something must have gone wrong during the zipping-unzipping process, and I can't repair them to be able to view them.
Could you help me because I'm really bothered: these photos were quite important.
Thank you

Hello,
What did you do with the originals you had on your hard drive...?
When you compress files, you only create copies of the original documents UNLESS you ask your archiver (7ZIP, WinRar, or other WinZIP) to delete the files after compression, so if you didn't make that request (checked the box) or didn't delete the originals yourself, whatever the accident, you should have your original images. For the compressed copies, there’s no point in looking or insisting; it’s dead: compression stopped = archive dead. There was something more than just compression that destroyed your images; I’ve done thousands of compressions of uncompressed formats (there’s no point in compressing JPEG as it's already compressed) and I’ve never lost my original images even when there were accidents during compression...
One thing is certain: broken archives and everything they contain are not recoverable... :-((

The price of a program is inversely proportional to its usability.

Thank you for your reply, Luke.
Based on your explanations, I conclude that the carrots are almost cooked for me as I have deleted the original files!!!
However, I have one last idea; could you tell me what you think and perhaps guide me on what to do?
I was thinking of trying to recover the photos from the source, that is, from the SD card of my camera, even though I have also deleted these photos after transferring them to my computer: I have heard about data recovery software for deleted files... would it work on my camera's SD card??? I would like to point out that the photos are not damaged...
Thank you.

Hello,
Yes, it might be possible, not for all the images but possible provided that you have never reused your card (taken new photos) after deleting them, but I assume you have taken new photos with the same card since then.... :-((
If no image has been overwritten since the deletion, you can use Recuva which is very powerful, free, and doesn’t require installation https://www.commentcamarche.net/telecharger/utilitaires/19127-recuva/ if you have used your camera again after your mishap, you might as well consider that the chances are slim.... :-(((

Ok,
but I unfortunately believe there isn't much to be done.
Put your card back in the device and try transferring all the photos through the device via USB into another folder.
Provided you haven’t deleted them. I don't have high hopes, but technology can sometimes surprise us.
It's also possible that if you're on certain damaged photos, turning off the device too quickly meant the information couldn’t be properly recorded.

I would lean more towards the second solution now that you mention it... the camera is new and seems quite temperamental.
Too bad, it's a shame, I just got back from Africa, an unforgettable trip...!
Thank you for your help and the time you spent, anyway!

Hello,
I can no longer view jpeg images in an entire folder; the date and dimensions extensions have disappeared, and when I try to open them, I get a message saying: invalid format or not supported. Thank you for your help!

Hello,
I also have a great need to repair damaged jpeg images. Images that I lost due to a problem with that damn Partition Magic of my ....... I then recovered them with Easy Recovery (the only one that managed to get them back, by the way), but the thing is, it's impossible to view them because the file is damaged.
If anyone knows of a software...
Thank you in advance.

I have my photos in my images, but suddenly these photos have disappeared and I can no longer view them. How can I recover these files and repair them?
I accidentally deleted a folder of my photos while trying to transfer them to an external drive. I went to the Recycle Bin and clicked on Restore, but I can no longer find that folder of photos. I searched using an evocative word to locate them, but I couldn't find them. I used a program to recover deleted photos and found a folder containing 3GB and over 112 files and videos, but when I click on each of the thumbnail photos, which I can't actually see and are in .jpg format, it says No preview available in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. What should I do to recover and view my photos? Thank you in advance!
