problem opening attachments Solved

Hello everyone,

another PC, another problem lol.
I find myself in front of a PC where it is not possible to open attachments from Hotmail.
I open Hotmail, go to an email, click to open the attachment. If I save the attachment, there is no problem. However, if I click open, then it doesn't work, I get an error message like:

"unable to read c:\Documents and settings\username\local settings\Temporary internet files\content.IE5\XXXXX\filename.extension

the xxx is a mix of letters and numbers that I can't remember hence the x

I cleared everything I could with CCleaner.

Does anyone have an idea?

I can't open the attachments either!! As soon as I click "open" or "save," it downloads and then the box disappears right after...so I can't open them!!! Help me!

Hi, check what your attachments open with, whether it's Windows Media Player or something else, and try reinstalling it  because that's what happened to me. Good luck to you -- tupac

they are pps, so PowerPoint.
I installed the PowerPoint 2003 viewer due to these issues... but it doesn't change anything. Actually, it does change. The program opens and then I get another error message saying it can't access the file. (basically, it doesn't work either)

Would clearing the content.IE5 once change anything?

I found the solution. It was the Kerio firewall that was blocking the opening of files... All it took was to uncheck a little box in the Kerio internet options...

Hello, I am using Outlook, and I can't read files in pps/ppt format. To be able to read them, I transfer them to my Hotmail account, and they open without any issues. What can I do to open them in Outlook? Thank you for your responses.

Hello, I see that this is a problem that has been ongoing for a while^^!
As for me, it's happening on my wife's Yahoo email, it keeps trying to download and it gets stuck indefinitely unless we close the download window! However, when I forward the message from her Yahoo inbox to my Hotmail, I can download and open them in 2 seconds^^, and that's on the same computer!
I can't find the answer to the problem because I checked the firewall and antivirus, and they are set to standard!

--With Outlook, I had no problems. I just changed my computer to "Vista". Unfortunately, I can no longer open certain attachments to my emails 'pdf file and slideshow". It indicates "is not a valid Win32 application." Could you possibly give me some advice? Thank you very much. Best regards

Hello, could you please tell me how to view attachments on msn? I wanted to uninstall Microsoft Office because every time I clicked on my pps files, it kept asking for the product key. I exited and it worked anyway, but after uninstalling the software, I can no longer view them. I must have made a mistake, and now nothing works. Can you please help me?

Hello, I think I found the solution: I uninstalled the Yahoo toolbar because apparently there is a conflict with the Google toolbar that I had already installed, and since then no more problems! Good luck to everyone, I hope this will solve your issue! wblot
