Download games for PS2

Question

Hello,

I still have my PS2, and I play it from time to time. However, I can no longer play my favorite game: GT4.
Indeed, the disc is no longer detected by the console.
I would like to know if there are methods to play GT4 again. I’ve heard about downloading it from the internet and using it with Swap Magic.
Is it legal? Is it reliable?
I would like to hear your opinions on this technique, as well as any tutorials.
If you have other methods, I'm all ears =)

Ok, thanks for your advice! =) But I saw in some forum that downloading games wasn't illegal, as long as you own the original, and also that you don't share it! Is that true???

You have two techniques (the swap disc and the "Magic Swap") and neither is legal...

The "Magic Swap" damages the tray of your console by forcing it manually (in the case of a "PS2" known as "Fat"), plus the disc of the "Magic Swap" is of poor quality and very fragile...

If your disc is unreadable, it might be scratched... I advise you either to buy it second-hand or to have the damaged DVD repaired (some shops do this for less than €5 per CD or DVD)

Do you have a red screen inviting you to place a disc in the "Playstation" or "Playstation 2" format?

If the CD or DVD is really no longer detected (in the case where the console does not react when reading the CD or DVD), I would lean more towards a defective or worn lens issue... The only solutions for this problem are to change the drive, but given the price at which you can find this console now, it might be better to buy another one...

One little tip though, try changing the console's position (vertical/horizontal), it might help with reading... But consider replacing it if it doesn't respond...

Owning the original is no longer valid now, downloading protected content is illegal... The "PS2" is not old enough to be compared to abandonware... (It seems that there needs to be at least a 10-year period after the end of commercial exploitation, and it still depends on the software or games).

The fact that it plays one game and not another is not proof... I know that "Gran Turismo 4" caused quite a few problems for players (it did not work on the first generations of consoles).
