I was just given a superb Canon camera with a 16 GB memory card.
How many photos will I be able to take?

It depends on the device.
Because they don't all have the same resolution.
How many megapixels is it?
And also the model? Because usually the company gives an approximation of the number of photos you can take.
But just to put it out there, I can tell you that with 16GB you can take tons! I personally use a 16GB one, but that's for video so a lot of space is required, but for photos you'll be able to take tons.
The question remains whether it's a small digital camera, a bridge camera, or a reflex?
