Hello,
So here it is, a little recap of my mishap this morning:
I have a tower under XP, a (very recent) Samsung screen... so far so good.
I wanted to power up an old laptop (the screen is dead, I have to connect it to a monitor).
Screen: 1 DVI port + 1 VGA - it is currently connected to my tower via DVI, the only port available on my tower.
The old laptop only has VGA, so I connected the laptop and the screen with VGA: no signal, I was still on the Windows screen of my tower - I then went into the display settings to choose the option "2" for the monitors, clicked OK and Apply... nothing, still on the XP screen of the tower!!
I then unplugged the DVI from my screen, now only having the VGA between the laptop and the screen, and I got to the laptop's screen - laptop fried, I saw what I wanted to see, I put it away, and was about to return to my tower PC to continue my Sunday activities!
I boot up the machine, drivers, Windows with a progress bar, then nothing! screen in sleep mode, I turn it back on, digital display at the top, then analog, then digit, then analog (it's searching), to end up with the message: "check signal cable"
I think the problem comes from my switch in the settings from monitor 1 to monitor 2, but I can't change it since the screen is black.
The DVI cable works (I see it at boot, display is perfect, it's only when Windows launches that there is a problem!)
Do you think the problem comes from my manipulation?
Everything was working perfectly, the screen works, the DVI port on the PC too, and the cable as well, because at the startup of the tower, I have the display of drivers and the Windows progress bar, it's just after that nothing is there.
I'm going to need a hand with this, it's my personal computer that I also use for my professional activities!
Thank you in advance for your feedback, I'm available for any further clarifications.
