Hello everyone,
I have read the different posts about drop-down lists....but I can't manage it.
Could you please explain the process to me again using Open Office?
Thank you very much.

Hello everyone
validating a list in Open Office:
write the list
select the cell field receiving the validation
toolbar /Data /Validity
in the window:
at the top choose: "cell range"
click in the bottom window and select the reference field that will then be entered in the window
You can also choose in this window the LIST option and enter the values in the bottom window.
Best regards

Good evening Vaucluse and thank you for your help,
It's still not clear enough....
Column A contains the first names: 5 first names
Column B the age
Column C the contribution
I want to create a dropdown list for the first names on another sheet.
How should I do this.... should I enter the list of first names in the bottom window???
But if the list is large, it can be tedious???
Thank you
Chantal

To switch sheets:
create your list of five first names in column A
select it
Tools / Data / Define range
give it a name in the top window, for example NAME
on your second sheet
select the range to be processed
Tools / Data / Validity / Cell range
at the bottom enter the name of your field, (here NAME) without any other sign (no equal sign for example)
Regards

Hello,
I can now create a list on another sheet following your advice.
However, while I only select column A with my first names (to define the range), I am surprised to see the title and other data from other columns in the dropdown menu!
Is this normal?
Thank you very much for your help.

http://www.cijoint.fr
and come back here to provide the link given by the site.
I'll take a look at it by the end of the morning if no one has resolved it by then

Hello Vaucluse,
I am attaching my essay....
In fact, I want to create dashboards, so I am doing some trials.
Thank you for your help.

Hello Tanchal
Here is your arranged file below.
http://www.cijoint.fr/cjlink.php?file=cj201103/cijOnjzEHn.ods
I don't know much about Open, but testing a bit, I've come to the conclusion that you shouldn't give the list the name of a cell in the range, otherwise the entire range is taken.
But these are just assumptions...!
In any case, by naming the field A2:A5 MENU as in the template, it works better!
You also need to go to the Options tab in the validation window to uncheck
"the range contains labels"
this is to avoid the automatic display of the column title in A1 in the dropdown menu.
Keep me updated, I'm discovering this along the way!
Best regards
