Ping between 2 virtual machines

Question

Hello,

I am a beginner in the field of computer networking, and I want to connect 2 PCs together using Wi-Fi.
The problem is that I want to connect 2 virtual machines, each located on a different physical machine, and I'm unable to ping them. I don't know whether to use the IP address of the virtual machine or the physical machine!!!???
If anyone can help me or has an answer to any of my questions, it would be nice to hear from you.

How do you virtualize?

Which OS do you virtualize?

What network configuration do you use when entering the parameters for the virtual machines?

Do they both have internet access?

To find out the IP address on a virtual machine, you need to open a command prompt and type the following:

Windows: ipconfig

Linux: ifconfig

MacOS: ifconfig

Then look for the address in 192.168.X.X if it's a home network... This should be under the ipv4 section for Windows and wlan0 (if it's WiFi) on Mac and Linux or eth0 for Ethernet.

To perform a ping, you need to execute the following command:

ping target_ip_address

I managed to display the IP address, but the ping is not working. Should I ping the IP address of the virtual machine or the IP address of the real machine?

I don't know VirtualBox very well; I used it only once and an old version.

However, I imagine it’s not very different from VMware.

Thus, when you create your virtual machine, you must have 3 options for the network settings:

Bridged: 1 virtual network card with a different IP address from your physical OS

Same Card: Same network card, same IP address

Isolation: Virtual machine isolated from the network with or without internet.

Could you please give me your two complete IP addresses?

Hmm, you will need to review your configuration to set up a network; the two IPs should be different as they won’t be able to distinguish between themselves and another on the network.

Just out of curiosity, how did you obtain your IP address? Is it a corporate network? If not, which internet service provider are you using?

This is the company's network; the two physical machines do not have the same IP address, but the two virtual machines have the same one.

I can't ping even between the two physical machines (Windows) at all.

Hello,

I know this topic is old, but I'm experiencing exactly the same problem: I'm trying to ping my two virtual machines (with VirtualBox) that are on the same physical machine with Ubuntu, but I can't. The DHCP server had assigned the same IP address to both virtual machines, which is 10.0.2.15 (configured with bridge mode). I changed one of them (staying on the same subnet), but the ping still doesn't work.
Note: the ping from the virtual machines to the host works well, but not the other way around.
If anyone can help me???
