Connect an mp3/mp4 to Clio Campus

Hello, I recently acquired a Clio campus.com.
In its glove compartment, there is an RCA output, I believe (red and white connectors). It's said that you can connect an iPod, MP3 player, and listen to your music.
I bought a cable from a supermarket that fits everything; I connected my phone to it, but it didn't work even though the connectors matched.
Question: how can I connect my MP3 player?
Upon reflection, it may be that the cable is the right one but not compatible with the phone.
Thank you in advance for your responses.
Best regards
Configuration: Windows Vista / Internet Explorer 7.0

It's a shame for Renault to have a 2011 car with a CD audio and RCA radio. They should replace the radio with another MP3 compatible with steering wheel controls.
At least as compensation, a 4GB iPod Nano wouldn't cost them anything, damn Renault!
And the windshield seals are coming off, the small rearview mirror makes it hard to see anything, just practical for parking, and the carpet quality is poor.
The total options: CD radio + ABS + anti-lock brakes + air conditioning + electric windows + electro-adjustable rearview mirrors.
The Campus 2011 1.2 16v can't even climb a hill in second gear; it's disappointing for a French car.

Thank you, I have the same feeling about this car that I bought new: a cardboard car that deteriorates at a rapid pace...
