Error message 'ati2dvag.dll file problem'

Hi everyone, I have a big problem and while browsing the net I saw that I wasn't the only one experiencing the same issue..
Here's a brief timeline of my troubles.

My laptop, a Toshiba Satellite A60, started shutting down unexpectedly out of the blue; I just had to wait a few minutes to turn it back on and it would reboot as if nothing had happened. I immediately thought it was a virus, so I did a cleaning with antivirus and other specialized tools. Then suddenly a video issue appeared without warning, the computer indicated a problem with (ati2dvag.dll) and switched to VGA mode. I’ve tried practically everything: using the ATI uninstall utility (I removed everything), then used the driver cleaner utility to get rid of what was left and then I reinstalled a configuration with my original Toshiba CD. I also went to the Toshiba website in case the drivers were newer, but nothing worked. At best, it would function for a while and then go back to failure, and at worst, it would boot to a blue screen saying "dumping physical memory" etc.

If someone has an idea and, more importantly, a solution, thanks in advance; I've exhausted all my knowledge.

Hello,
after tinkering a bit
I fixed my issue
even with updates it still bugs
so 2 solutions are available to you.
The first one is simply to buy a graphics card (I recommend this to anyone who has an integrated graphics chipset on the motherboard, plus it will free up RAM and solve the issues with ati2dvag.dll)
otherwise the second one
To spend nothing
the procedure to follow: (this manipulation is for XP but works under Vista as well)
you need to click on
-Start
-Control Panel
-Display or Appearance and Themes then Display (it's the same, just the display mode that might be different)
you will have a window titled "Display Properties"
-go to the Settings tab
Here, we will set 16 million colors instead of 32 million colors (you won't even notice the difference)
So we continue on this same window
-click on -Advanced
Another window appears
-go to the Troubleshooting tab
In hardware acceleration, move the slider 2 notches to the left
it will say "Disable all cursor and advanced drawing acceleration. Use this setting to fix drawing problems.
If we move it another notch to the left. No more access to games and by moving it 2 notches to the left you won't even notice the difference.
Mine runs well and since then I haven't had a single infinite loop issue. I hope this helps you while ATI fixes this bug.

Hi
I had a similar problem on my PC
for me it was due to my graphics card, some people advised me to uninstall the driver and reinstall it
but for me, a simple update from the ATI website was enough

Hey Miotype.
I haven't tested your last tip because my PC has been running great for a week.
This forum is awesome and you can find really nice guys like Miotype here; I could never have fixed this heap of junk without you and your tips, I really owe you one, man, thanks for all your efforts and everything you've done.
By the way, there were 2 problems: the first is that the graphics card driver won't install even when I install the one from the original CD of the graphics card, and the second is that the monitor turns off by itself after 5 minutes of booting the PC.
The driver you gave me, Miotype (Omega Radeon), worked perfectly, and after a week I installed the new driver I downloaded from the Asus site, and it installed (lol Miotype, thanks :)) For the screen, it was simpler than I could have imagined: DUST :)
I cleaned my motherboard, the RAM slots, the PCI-EXPRESS port, the graphics card, and the processor, and voilà, job done :) everything works great :)
Once again, Miotype, thanks; it's because there are guys like you who spend their energy helping others that newbies (like me) can make progress :)

Hello,
This may be due to a setting in the BIOS (since you've completely reconfigured it and the issue persists)

You need to set the hard drive sleep options to disable in the BIOS.

Also, disable the sleep options in Windows.

This is a lead... :)

Later

If in doubt, reboot.

yes, but as he writes it, he has already completely rebuilt his machine. so reinstalling the driver but it continues.

ps: have you tried my trick?

bye

When in doubt, reboot.

but I am a novice in computers so I could have done it but I would have needed to know how to do it

Hello everyone, well I have exactly the same problem with my laptop which is also a Toshiba A60, I've had it since January 2005 and I've been having this problem for over a year.
I've tried everything, but nothing works, I've installed and reinstalled, formatted and reformatted, and especially I haven't stopped with their updates, I can't stop
a few days ago someone told me it was a manufacturing defect of the Toshiba A60, and I'm not surprised, I don't know how many forums I've posted on, and it's always the same ones who have a problem with the Toshiba A60.

I still haven't met anyone who could fix this problem, and I'm really starting to think that it's Toshiba who made a mistake.

Same problem. From the very first use in January 2005, a message announced that Windows had detected a serious error which, after analysis, turned out to be an unresolved issue with ATI. However, the computer worked properly for a few months before it started to degrade. I had to reboot and ended up at this blue screen telling me the error on ativag with the technical information Stop (0X000000EA,0XFFB36D88,OXFAF97CBC,OX000001)
If anyone knows what that means... In my opinion, Toshiba is not completely blameless in this matter. Would a little collective action be possible?

Hi everyone, I'm replying a bit late but if this can help people who were in the same situation as me or others, I fixed the issue. It turned out I needed to update the BIOS. After several calls with Toshiba, I found out that there was a problem with ATI and the motherboards that are originally installed on the A60. So after doing this update, the problem was solved. However, for novices, be careful during the update to make sure all applications are closed, especially the internet connection, to avoid completely crashing your system.

That's it, thanks to everyone!

Hi, I just joined the club... for several days now, I’ve been facing the same problem with an error message on my Toshiba PC (ati2dvag).

Except that I am not a specialist. I tried to follow your instructions or advice but without really understanding it well.

How can I fix this problem without risking messing everything up? Thank you for your help, simple and guided please!

Hello, I had the same problem except that my PC is not a Toshiba; personally, I would lean more towards ATI... I changed my graphics card last summer for an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 128 mb and since then no problems!

Hi everyone!
I have a Toshiba A60 and I had the same problem as you with the blue screen and everything... After some research, I found a solution!! You just need to download a BIOS update for your laptop model (available on Toshiba for Toshiba :)) and install it on your computer, and there you go, it's that simple....
Good luck+++

Hello, how do you do it when you're on Toshiba? What should I click to get the updates? There's nothing.

Good evening,

I have the same problem, it occurred out of the blue right after I did a reinstallation of FS 2004.
I have a MEDION, so I'm not sure Toshiba is solely to blame!
Do you have a remedy for other brands?
Is a BIOS update feasible?

Thank you

Hello,

I have the same problem and it seems it's due to the installation of Incredimail? What should I do because I like using this email service, it's fun... Please help me, thank you.

Hello Jaya!

Don't worry about Incredimail! I don’t have it, the problem is really there!
I’ve tried everything (screen properties, new drivers from Ati, Ati boosters...) but my ATI Radeon graphics card (on IBM Thinkpad E40 PC) is too old and it's causing issues for my daughter's games (Sims)...

Hello,

Not yet, but my husband did a little cleaning in my disk space and then he ran a CCleaner!!! We'll see!! But I also have an overheating issue for my birthday. He gave me a small board-like table to cool my laptop, but it didn't help with the problem... I added your trial to my schedule for next time. lol

Anyway, you're great for getting back to me, thank you so much. ,o)

Hello everyone
I have the same problem mentioned here that has not yet been resolved: ati2dvag and switching to VGA mode, but recently the problem has worsened; now after I turn on the PC, it works for a maximum of half an hour, then the screen turns off by itself while the PC continues to run.
I checked the power management, I formatted my hard drive, I flashed my BIOS, scanned the HDD with updated Kaspersky Internet Security 7, downloaded the new drivers for my graphics card, but to no avail.
Please help me, I’m suffocating without my PC, thank you in advance.

My configuration:
Motherboard: ASUS A8V-E Deluxe
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (I have never overclocked it)
Graphics card: ASUS EAX300 SE 128MB on PCI Express
RAM: 256 DDR
HDD: 80GB
Screen: LG 710E 17" CRT

Have you tried my procedure?

cult_of_the_dead_cow Posted messages 9 Status Membre 1

Yes, I tried it yesterday. At first, I thought it was working, but no, the only difference is that the monitor no longer turns off every 5 minutes but every 30 minutes—it's a start :)
Don't you have another idea???

download omega radeon v3.8.421 (this is the latest as of today)
then uninstall all your ATI software and drivers
then check manually if everything ATI is properly removed, otherwise delete them manually
restart the PC and cancel the device and driver search
then install the famous omega radeon drivers with atitools and check everything, it might help you lol
then
go to the control panel
system
and then go to device manager
find the yellow question mark (graphics card)
and install manually
which means you request to go to the omega directory
originally c:/windows/programs files/radeon omega drivers/v3.8.421/2kxp_inf
there you should find a driver
for my part I found the x1200 driver even though I have the x1250 but it's not a big deal, it works anyway
it's not necessary if your graphics card is recognized correctly
once this step is done, if all goes well for a few days, you can consider putting the right driver for your card if you have the same problem as me by going back to device manager (see above)
take your graphics card and request to update the drivers and always manually select the drivers from the directory that I can send to you in private message. (I don't remember how I decompressed to get the drivers) 84 message(s) posted(s) since Wednesday, October 31, 2007

keep me informed in both cases, thank you

hi miotype, I followed the procedure you wrote about and it solved my problem halfway, but really, you're a star: for 2 months the graphics card wouldn't install and you got it working in no time. now the card is well recognized by the PC (with a very slight difference in name as you indicated), but the screen still keeps going dark; however, the time before it shuts off has gone from 15 minutes to a few hours (maximum 4 hours). do you happen to have another brilliant idea like the last one to extend this time to around a hundred hours, or even indefinitely? that would really help me out lol. thank you anyway for the effort you've put in so far, it's very kind of you.

Hello again, sorry for not noticing that you replied last time

So you have one last thing left
I confess I did it too
http://www.station-drivers.com/page/atidriv.htm
Download this file
Unzip it
Just don’t install
Once it's unzipped
You go to
-control panel
-system
-hardware
-device manager
-graphics card
And there you ask to update the driver
You do it manually
And you point to the folder you just unzipped
Normally you can click ok
It will ask you to replace and you click
-no (all)
There you should find the original name again and no more issues
For my part, it's perfect
Day and night, night and day
I left it and nothing at all
So I took pleasure in overclocking
I fixed the problem but I’m still going to buy a graphics card because sometimes I’d like to play some games and I like to have superb graphics
What graphics card do you have
For now, I have an x1250
I’m really sorry for not replying earlier
Best regards
If you have any issues, feel free to send me a private message ;)
We'll see if it's you or the computer that's going to crash ;) I'm sure it’s your PC ;)
If you still can’t find the drivers
Send me your private email and I’ll send you the folder by email
And the last tip I propose is to just buy a graphics card
There are some for €30 if you’re not a gamer

Hello Miotype,

I join those who thank you for what you do, it's really cool. In your last message, you mentioned that there is a new update at ATI. So, like the rest of this community, I have a Toshiba A60 with the same problem as everyone else, I have read this forum carefully, and I just updated my PC's BIOS. I hope this will solve this pesky problem. However, I would like to update my ATI card (ATI Mobility Radeon 7000 IGP).

1st question: I can't find the update on the ATI website.

2nd question: I also followed the advice from a post above: set the card to 16 million and lower by 2 notches... can I go back to the maximum configuration?

Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas everyone!!!
