Preserve a hyperlink in PDF.

For those with Office 2007: in Word, save as PDF or XLS, save the .doc as .pdf, the paragraph links and hyperlinks are preserved.
Simply,

download OpenOffice here: http://fr.openoffice.org/
then open your .doc with it (you may need to redo some formatting)
then you convert it to pdf: File menu/export as pdf
OOo can keep hyperlinks on words (I just checked with a mailto link)

The solution is actually very simple and I wonder why no one has mentioned it :-)
Install Open Office (Free) http://fr.openoffice.org/

Then open your Word or Excel file with Writer or Calc

and start creating the PDF simply
(to keep the links check: Export relative file system URLs)

and it works 100% and free and legal

Now, it's your turn!

I also want to convert a Word file to PDF format while keeping the hyperlinks. After looking at all your responses, it seems that the best option is:

conv2pdf.com but the only problem is that it specifies that the file must not exceed 6MB... mine is over 8MB.... :S

Is there a solution to reduce the size of my file? Or is there a site for files larger than 6MB?

It doesn't work with PDF creator for links attached to a word!
Only explicit addresses like www.

I paste my Word document into Microsoft Publisher and then print it as a PDF.

In Word 2010, select your link, click on 'Bookmarks' (Insert tab) and uncheck 'Hidden Bookmarks'.

I want to create a document in Open Office, convert it to PDF, while keeping relative links to other PDF files.

With version 2.0, no problem, the relative links are preserved when converting to PDF.

However, when I click on a link to open a PDF file, it opens in the same window as the first document.

How can I make it open in a new window?

Furthermore, when I created my link in Open Office, I made sure to indicate that it should open in a new window ("blank")...

I know of one, but you need to change your way of creating a document!!!!

If you are ready to unlearn what you know about word processing, and invest some time in learning the source codes for professional-quality PDF documents, then check out TeX-LaTeX, which is free, open-source, and has a great community... However, forget your Word or OOo files, but you'll see, it's the best once you understand the basics!

I had the same issue, so following the advice above, I:
- created my links in Word (too complicated in Open Office)
- opened my Word document with Open Office Writer 3 (the links remain)
- reformatted my layout (it shifts quite a few things, especially the bullets)
- did: file - export as PDF

And THERE, the links indeed remain. Because I tried by doing file - print - PDF Creator, and there the links did not remain.

Otherwise, if you want to stay in Word, you can save the document as a web page (in the file menu) and the links also remain when using PDF Creator. But it's still the same, you have to review the layout.
