Brush on Photoshop layer

Hello,

I have the latest version of Photoshop and I would like to apply a brush on a layer (I've done it before), but now I'm getting an error message. (Unable to use the history shape because the history state does not contain a corresponding layer)
And when I try to apply a brush on my background texture, it doesn't work.

Hi Pinky-mango,

I think your error message comes from the fact that you're using the history tool instead of the brush tool, which is right above.
