Hello,
I have received masked calls several times in recent months!
As soon as I answered, no one spoke on the other end of the line; it was silent, no sound!
This morning, another masked call came in, I answered, and there was no sound in the receiver, but after 5 or 6 seconds, I heard a "BEEP" and 2 seconds later a "Goodbye" (female voice, like an automated answering machine)!
Can someone tell me what this is?
Help me understand this?
Thank you for your precious help!

"Some companies used a kind of 'programmed' message to find out if people are at home and at what time, so they could call them back to offer various things."

Thank you
Stop the ignorance. These calls are in no way attempts to hack your line or anything else.
They are simply from those telemarketing companies located in the Maghreb that keep calling us, pretending to be a company that manages water, buys gold, or whatever nonsense is current.
It’s not advisors who are calling you, but robots. Once you pick up, the call is immediately rerouted by the robot to an available advisor. Most of the time, the advisors answer right away and you don't notice anything.
When no advisor is available, the calls cannot be rerouted and the robot says "goodbye." End of story.
Basically, if you hear this message, you’ve escaped some chatter.
At the moment, line hacking is mainly done by hackers who retrieve your access codes and can call using your line via SIP.

No technical means to shove their "goodbye" down the throat of these parasites who are ruining the lives of thousands or millions of subscribers? On my two numbers, one from Fr Télécom and one from Freebox, I've received a total of 10 calls in the same day. Are there no laws against this kind of harassment? No technical means to defend oneself or get rid of it?
At least, does anyone know how to avoid receiving calls from hidden numbers?
Best regards.

I would like to add that Fr Telecom offers the rejection of calls from withheld numbers for 1 euro per month, or the unblocking of numbers.
But it seems to me that they also offered a way to hide your number when calling.
But where are we heading?
When will there be counter-defenses and counter-counter-defenses, and counter-...-counter-defenses each time for 1 or a few euros more per month to pay for this service?
If the option to withhold the number exists, then it is withheld, period, and we should be able to refuse it without paying an extra cent to the provider who instituted this option, and who surely owes us the ability to automatically refuse it.
Ah damn, where are they going with this?!
If the possibility of filing a collective complaint existed in French law, it would be great to file one against Fr Telecom! But it seems we're not there yet...

Hi everyone ...
No info, but still the same problem ...
I think that while waiting for a precise answer, it's better to avoid answering any hidden calls, it prevents being able to identify when you're at home or not ...
And too bad for the friends who think they are James Bond and always call from hidden numbers, they won't get any news for a while ^^

Good evening, I had the same issue today: a masked call with a few seconds of silence, then a female voice saying "goodbye".... My son just told me that it's easy to do this, you just have to use applications (which ones?) on the internet and so someone can call us anonymously with a downloaded voice!!!
He doesn't know how to do it, but it's doable: all on the internet...
Now how to find out who is doing it?? I don't know.

Hello,
I have the same problem. It started two days ago, I see "anonymous" on my Free phone, so I don't answer, and the voicemail just says "goodbye." Since then, I get at least one every day...
It's pretty strange...
Especially since I see it's not just happening to me...
Have you found out where it's coming from?

I also receive this kind of call
exactly the same thing happens, at first I thought it was a joke but now it's getting tedious...

Hello,
Today I received 2 masked calls on my cell phone. When I answered, 2 recorded voices, in English (one female and one male), were talking to each other (I don't care, I don't care, etc).
Then when I got home this evening, there were 4 messages on my landline voicemail (crazy stuff???), one of which said: "Hello, we try to contact you, we come from another planet (....no comment), it's the last message, we try another line, goodbye"
Knowing that yesterday, I received the same message as in the topic, only a "goodbye" from a female electronic voice.
The problem is that with the 2 calls on my cell phone, I answered. Do you think this is a phone spam? And that I will have to pay?
The worst part is that one of the messages left on my landline came from my boyfriend's cell phone !!!! How is that possible ????

Good evening Lisa,
Your testimony catches my attention, not because I believe in the paranormal, but isn't there such a thing as unexplained phenomena? Are we alone in the universe? Are the stories about UFOs, Roswell, and Area 51 real? Why wouldn't they try to use our means of communication to send messages?
As for the second point, and I think this will clarify everything, if one of the messages left on your landline comes from your boyfriend's mobile... you must conclude... that it is simply him playing a prank on you... This is as obvious as the nose in the middle of your face, my dear. QED
For those who understand.

No, it's not a hoax, because if you had read the entire topic, you would have noticed the coincidences between the blocked calls and the voice messages received on our voicemails or directly!
We, the "victims" of this event, simply want relevant and clear explanations in order to understand why and how we receive these messages!
Thank you!
Goodbye!

Hello, we are trying to contact you, we come from another planet .............
I would really love it if it were true, I dream of visiting another planet, who doesn't dream of it by the way lollllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll but it seems too good to be true because I just received this funny call.

Do you always answer? Because if that's the case, it's normal that they keep calling. Personally, I've already had blocked calls where no one was on the other end, but when you stop answering, it stops.
Hello,
I don't know if my case has any connection to yours, but here is what I've been experiencing for about 4 years:
At the time, I was with SFR and started receiving regular calls from private numbers around noon; At first, I would pick up, but no one ever answered. One day, I wanted to test it, so I let the phone ring to see how long the person would hold on. After 20 minutes... nothing!!! So, I hung up. From there, a big paranoia set in (a psycho who's having fun with me...). Anyway, on my husband's advice, I stopped answering calls, which after a while spaced out and eventually stopped for a long time. Then I changed operators and got a new number, and the phenomenon started again, but this time randomly, at no specific time, but always no one speaking. Okay, there's always someone having fun. One day, the phone rings from a private number; I don't answer. And it rings and rings, never going to voicemail, quite strange, but I don't worry thinking it's a technical issue, so after 20 minutes, I hang up.
Now, for the past several months, these calls have been occurring randomly, but always in the evening when I'm about to go to bed (whether it's 9 PM or 1 AM). I know it’s hard to believe, but this is what I'm experiencing, and now I admit I'm starting to get a bit freaked out.
At Christmas, we were invited to my husband's family in Burgundy, and on the night of the 24th to the 25th, I had very interrupted sleep, waking up every hour. Well, that night, every time I picked up my phone to check the time, it started ringing. I would hang up immediately since we were sleeping in the same room with our children. This happened about 4 or 5 times in the night every time I opened my eyes and took my phone to see the time; I even woke my husband because I was so shaken...
What to think of all this except that it strongly resembles a paranormal phenomenon, even though I'm not the type to believe in such things as I'm very down-to-earth.
Any thoughts????

Good evening, I have the same problem except that the number is not masked (0484251239). It's really starting to annoy me, I'm in the middle of studying and I have other things to do than answer these ridiculous calls several times a day.
Good evening,
I also received messages on my voicemail from France Telecom, several "good bye" and strangely all these messages came from my own number..
Same for you?

Hi everyone, I’m not concerned about this problem, but I find it worrying, especially Lisa's case. The call came from my boyfriend, ask your boyfriend if he received the message from you! If he got it and opened it, it sounds like a virus on his phone ^^
Have a good evening

Hello,
I've been having the same issue for a few days with the number 0032 12 51 25 900 (apparently, the country code for Belgium but not in the correct format) or from anonymous callers.
They always go to my voicemail because I don't answer unknown numbers :-).
Australians apparently received similar calls and they were dealing with scammers (==> http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1469494).
Goodbye
