system inactive process

Question

My computer is slow... new but slow... It took 2 minutes to start up this morning... And in the list of processes, there is a "system idle process" that uses between 60 and 90% of my processor. What is this creature that I can't stop? Thank you for your help

Don't pay attention to the system's inactive process, it just indicates the percentage of free space on your PC in terms of speed; don't overthink it, damn it :)

Already 2 minutes to launch XP is not that slow. It all depends on your RAM; with 256 MB, it's normal. With 512 MB, it's a bit faster.
Then it depends on the programs that start up (antivirus, etc...); the more you have, the longer the boot will be.

The "System Idle Process" is not a process in itself; it actually indicates the free resources of your system. For example, if your CPU is used at 10%, the system idle process will show 90%.
This means that 90% of the resources are free on your PC.

I came across this post while searching for "System Idle Process," as I have one that is also slowing down my PC.
I had done some research and found explanations online about it, but I can’t find them anymore.
I installed the HP drivers for HP PSC 2510 on my PC, the all-in-one, directly accessible via WIFI.
The "idle processes" appear when the printer is off or not accessible via WIFI.
A crappy software is probably constantly searching for the connection to the printer (PNP or something like that), and since it's not there, it takes up all the CPU.
I remember that it can vaguely be fixed by installing HP driver updates.
Do you also have an HP printer accessible via WIFI installed but not accessible?

Oh la la, what can I say about the inactive process except that, in a nutshell, it's there just to tell the system what's happening on the PC. Or rather, to say that nothing is happening, hence your ±90% when you're not doing anything. In short, it listens so that it can later launch other processes; without it, the system wouldn't launch the processes. There you go, it's simplified to the max.

I also have the same problem with my PC, but it's just that we didn't explain it well. To be honest, my machine has become very slow, my process is over 90% used which makes everything inaccessible, and on the other hand, the idle process, which represents the CPU capacity that is not being used, shows me 90%........... but that's the catch, on one side it shows me that 90% of the system is not being used, and on the other side, I see that my machine has become slower than a P1.

In my opinion, it must be a virus, or something like that, but it's a real problem that needs to be taken seriously.

Me too, it’s impressive! My HP 6715b has never been this slow! Usually, I start it up in a maximum of 50 seconds! Yet the startup applications are completely empty. This all started after I installed that damn Adobe Reader with its process "adobeupdater.eexe" that’s hogging everything! I even wonder if Adobe's process hasn't turned into an idle process! Moreover, I also notice that the computer, which is usually very quiet, makes noise as if I had about thirty programs running! I hope you have a solution. Thank you in advance.

Hi, for those who are lagging, I had the same problem and I managed to fix it. It's often a virus attached to one of your svchost.exe applications. What it does is that svchost takes up to 99% of the CPU intermittently, and as soon as you check the task manager, one of the svchost.exe disappears.
- The thing I found is first to download a good antivirus (e.g., Clam).
- Then check if a port is open and if there is a response on one or two scanning websites ( https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?rh1dkyd2 )
- Finally, go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers and delete svchost.exe
and perform a Windows repair (otherwise you won't be able to use msconfig).

Yes, I have this problem too; I'm struggling, and my mouse also glitches from time to time (it goes unrecognized, then recognized, then unrecognized again...)

I love how the guy complains even though his PC starts up in 2 minutes flat; he clearly hasn't seen a PC that takes 25 minutes to start up + 10 minutes to launch Google Chrome + 10 minutes for it to connect to the Internet
so that's a total of 45 minutes just to be able to use the PC normally (thankfully, it's my secondary PC)
My main PC starts up in two minutes.........on Linux

The best solution is to do a good formatting, but remember to put your software and important stuff on a USB drive. That's what I did, and my computer has become a war machine.
