Cost of LCD screen backlight repair?

Hello,

The backlight of my laptop screen is not working (Packard Bell Easynote).
It seems that this is a common issue with LCD screens.

Could someone give me an idea of the repair cost?
- Cost of backlight tube replacement
- Cost of "inverter" replacement

NEON or INVERTER: 110 euros including tax
NEON and INVERTER: 140 euros including tax

Good evening,
it seems that we have the same problem, I have a Packard Bell Easynote laptop. I moved it while it was on to plug it into the printer, and once unplugged and brought back to the table, I noticed there was no more lighting. Did I press too hard on the screen while moving it, I don't know.
If you found a not too expensive solution, please let me know.

for me it's the ribbon cable!!
I took apart the front panel (2 screws hidden by stickers) and when I fiddled a bit with the ribbon cable (power cable I think) that goes from the computer to the inverter, it turns back on. I taped it up and it's working properly. So it's a loose connection due to the shearing that occurs when closing the screen. Indeed, the wires are stuck in the hinge mechanism (kudos to the design or assembly line^^).
I need a new ribbon cable! At least it will be cheaper than the inverter.

I repaired it myself, well apparently I got lucky because I ordered my inverter directly from http://inverter-pour-portable.com/ without worrying that the problem could come from elsewhere. I also learned that this failure represents 90% of screen failures on laptops...
I got by with a few Euros (48 Euros) and some elbow grease :-)

What can also happen is that the neon inside the panel is out of order.
I often repair this kind of breakdown and it has happened to me 2 or 3 times.
The ideal is when we can test with another panel of the same size.

Hello...

The inverter provides a high voltage to power the fluorescent backlighting (or "the" on a TV). The best thing to do is to replace it with an identical one or find an equivalent... I don't think it's possible to hack a power supply from a 12 volts from the PC power supply. If anything, adapting another inverter... But that can be dangerous.

When the screen lights up well and then turns off, it's very often the inverter. Generally, if it's the fluorescent, it starts by turning reddish before failing. I've only repaired 4 screens and one LCD TV... So I'm far from having seen it all.

If you don't want to hassle, hand it over to a pro (like "Jacques" up there!). But if you see the right inverter model for not too much, and new especially, go for it, it's worth a try. Worst case, if you change the inverter and it was the fluorescent tube causing the issue, well you can order a fluorescent online, and everything will be new. You'll get away for less than 100 euros, and 2 hours of work!

However, when changing a fluorescent, be careful not to let dust get in between the different layers of the screen.
