Sagem Fast Plug USB/Eth Connection Issue

Solved

Hello,

I bought 2 SAGEM F@st Plug Eth/Usb adapters that allow me to create a home network.

I have a connection problem:

I have 2 SAGEM adapters (1 USB and 1 Ethernet) as well as a LiveBox.
- The LiveBox is connected, via the USB cable, to the 1st SAGEM USB adapter, which is plugged into a power outlet.
- In another room, the 2nd SAGEM Ethernet adapter is connected to a laptop using the provided Ethernet cable. This adapter is, like the previous one, plugged into power.

After completing all these operations, I can’t connect with my laptop. Connection status: limited or no connectivity.

Thank you in advance,
Configuration: Laptop 1.6GHz 512MB RAM Windows XP SP2

A little information about power line carrier systems: they are very insensitive to the distance traveled on the 220V network wires, so changing the position of the power line connectors wouldn't make any difference. I have the same ones at home.........

Hi,

From what I've just read, you're using Powerline adapters. The most obvious hypothesis is that your electrical network is set up in such a way that the wire distance is too long for your equipment. Try testing with outlets in the same room, preferably on the same wall to start. If it still doesn't work, try plugging both modems into the same power strip...
If it still doesn't work, then there's a problem either with the equipment or with your electrical network.

Good luck

emmanuelP, there should never be 2 modems on an ADSL line.

ADSL communication is not the same as for telephones.

Below is a little documentation on powerline communication

I leave you these 3 links because I don't have much detail in your post.

Thank you.
Exactly, I'm using the powerline adapter. I'm going to try to plug everything in the same room.

What kind of details would you need additionally?

Everything you have in terms of detail, at least as much as you can give us and what you know.

But try first with the links I provided. If that still doesn't work, we will take everything in detail.

Hey,

Thanks Gouril for your contribution, but I think you're missing the point... it's about modulation on Power Line Carrier (PLC) and not Asynchronous Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL)... and from both a physical and functional perspective, they don't have much in common.

Good luck.

You mentioned 2 modems, I didn't make anything up...

Sorry.

Hi,

A modem is not necessarily ADSL... modem means modulator-demodulator... and you can modulate both radio waves (FM...) and electric signals (ADSL, PLC...) or even optical signals...
The difference between a powerline network and a home network with dedicated cabling lies in the fact that PLC is modulated to be carried by the electrical network while an Ethernet cable only supports TTL currents of +/- 5V.

I thought that was part of the physics curriculum in middle or high school!

Good luck.

The issue is as follows in my opinion:

When you use the USB connection on an adapter, a driver is required. Basically, the Livebox cannot use a USB adapter at all because it cannot manage it.

Essentially, you should replace the box connected to the Livebox with the ethernet box and use the USB box on the laptop, making sure to have the drivers installed.

I THINK J79 IS RIGHT. I have the same setup as you but with three Ethernet adapters, one of which is in a outbuilding located about twenty meters from the main house, and the connection works very well, even on the local network. So, no distance issue. However, sometimes I find that after waking up from sleep, I have a limited connection (no internet access, but local okay). I just need to unplug and replug the adapter (from the concerned PC) directly into the power outlet and the connection comes back.

Hi dude,
with your plug adapters, the connection is easier if both plug adapters are identical, either two USB or two Ethernet. Also, how long have you had your Livebox? Because the older Liveboxes had a USB port as a connection, it’s not plugged in and it’s not configured.

I use them and it works perfectly with Ethernet
