Ethernet controller not found

Hello, it has been almost a month now that my ethernet controller is not working. I finally decided to take matters into my own hands!
My motherboard is a GAP35CDS3R and the integrated ethernet controller is the RTL8111.
When I start installing the driver downloaded from the Realtek website, an error message appears at the end saying:
"The Realtek network controller was not found. if deep sleep mode is enabled please plug the cable."
Maybe there are several types of ethernet controllers for this motherboard... mine is quite old since I built my computer in 2007, but it is still quite adequate for today!
I checked in the BIOS that the LAN connection is indeed "enabled", I’ve already tried unplugging the RAM to reboot the motherboard, but nothing works.
For your information, there is a green light at the ethernet socket but no orange light...
I am running Windows 7.
Thank you in advance for your help as after spending hours on this, I am starting to feel a bit desperate!
PS: multiple reformatting from XP to Seven, nothing works...
Configuration: Windows 7 / Firefox 3.6.8
