Man VS Wild

Good evening,

I would like to know if you’re familiar with "Man VS Wild," "Seul face à la Nature" in French? This series airs on Discovery Channel.
However, I noticed yesterday in an episode a sneaky clue about the show proving that he is not so alone.
Indeed, he was ALONE on a raft he built with his little hands, in an ocean (most likely the Pacific). He faces all sorts of mishaps like a near shark attack and a jellyfish sting that he treats with his urine... anyway. We then see a wide shot of the raft, as if it was filmed from another boat!
I’m disappointed because the goal is for the guy to be dropped in the middle of nowhere and to fend for himself!!
What do you think??

Best regards, Paulo.

Hi

yes, I'm very familiar with this series

by the way, season 2 is currently airing on TNT, specifically NT1

they mention it on discovery
Bear is always accompanied by a filming crew
so there has to be another boat alongside

even though he has his camera

and he also has
a rescue team

everything you see he does himself
and only shows how to survive

the rest is just staging
to show you how to get by

for example, he encounters a venomous cobra
they will first secure the area then Bear will show
what to do and what not to do

do you seriously think they would let him loose like a puppet
in the middle of killer sharks just for the fun of TV

what he does is huge anyway
he's a former SAS soldier

and I can tell you that even if you think it's lame
having a team around him (insurance requirement)

he doesn't need it at all

given what the SAS does and just their entry test
you better be strong

they are considered the best in the world

Ok, the guy might be strong, but they should insist less on how he is "alone against nature." It's also true that it's less easy to rig this situation, even if it's possible for someone to tell him, "In 200 meters there's a cobra, then there's a waterfall, and finally a man-eating shark."

no, but everything he does, he does it himself

he is there to show you how to survive in the jungle
not how to die in the jungle

that's not what the film crew or rescue team does

when you see him climb a 30m high cliff with bare hands
he is all alone

he shows you what you can eat and what you can't eat
how to find your way
how to hydrate when there's no water
how to protect yourself
how to take shelter

that's it, that's survival
putting yourself in the shoes of someone lost in a jungle forest island

for the show and the insurance, he has to have a rescue team

it's not because he's a former SAS that he's stronger than Rambo
he also risks his life; anything can happen to him

he's still 40 years old, has a wife and two kids

Personally, I have some doubts about it; it seems a bit more realistic than Koh-Lanta, but I find it hard to believe that the guy, after all the risks he took, hasn't broken his camera and hasn't injured or killed himself... There's surely a whole team behind it.
It's also broadcast on NT1.

Do you think Koh Lanta is realistic? They're way less skilled than Bear Grylls.

I know that Koh-Lanta is all prepared in advance, but I think it's a shame to make people believe such nonsense... the same goes for reality TV...
I think Man vs. Wild could be nice if it had less of a reality TV vibe and more of a documentary feel.

What's unfortunate is that people believe everything they see on TV!!
Cut all TV antennas and boxes! You'll see a crazy world in the streets and in stores and bars!! People will start talking to each other again without fear because there will be no more brainwashing with insecurity, crisis, unemployment, etc!! We don't care about all that! Let's live happily with the people around us...

at the beginning of this video, we see a bit of the team that follows him. (but it's in English)

Thank you Rossi46du77 for enlightening me on this topic, I have nothing to add because you said it all! =)
Thank you Celika76 for agreeing that these clarifications should be provided more often ;-)

exactly

on discovery it's on
on NT1 I didn't watch it because it's the same ones that aired on discovery

NT1 has it at 2 PM I think if you're interested

I understand that some may criticize
they want to see blood

to see him being eaten by a crocodile
torn apart by a bear

we just have to keep in mind
that it's just a survival guide (period)

he's just there for that, to show what to do
not to take risks and die to please us

and I think he does it very well

that's it, see you later

I really enjoyed his knowledge about plants, trees, fish, etc. Even though he's not alone, he is very skilled and seems to know a lot of things, that's why I keep watching =)
I haven't seen any seasons, so I'll continue on Discovery ;-)

... and you think how the guy is filmed?? by the birds? obviously he's not alone, he has a film crew, but I suppose they're well treated, he's intentionally struggling, that's the point of the show!
