Hello everyone,

I actually found the answer to my problem on the net but not without struggling to get my hands on it, that’s why I’m sharing it on c.c.m too.
When you’ve lost sndvol32.exe, the steps are as follows:
take the Windows XP CD and put it in the drive.
while holding down shift so it doesn’t start.
then open a command prompt and type the following command to recover the file (press enter at the end of each line):
x: (x=your drive so d, e or f?)
cd i386
expand sndvol32.ex_ c:\windows\system32\sndvol32.exe
there you go...

Hello,
I just wanted to tell you that your message was really helpful and I was able to get my sound card working again...something that no one around me knew how to do.
Best regards

I have the same problem; I no longer have sound settings or the sound recorder in Windows XP. The issue is that I have 5 installation CDs provided by HP, and it's complicated for me. Could you please be a bit more detailed for a complete novice? Thank you in advance.

Hello everyone!

I accidentally deleted the SndVol32.exe program and now I can't use the microphone I just bought!
I've read your advice, but the problem is that I'm abroad and I don't have the Windows CD with me to reinstall it.
Is there any way to download it online? How??
I'm in big trouble, so thank you for any responses

Hello,

I made a mistake and deleted sndvol.exe! The problem is that I'm on Windows 98 and I no longer have the installation floppy disk!

Can someone help me for free?

P.S. I've been to a bunch of download sites, but either the links no longer exist or the downloads are paid!

Thank you.

To solve the problem

- Download sndvol32.exe =>> http://www.relaxingsoftware.com/sndvol32.exe
- Copy it to C:\windows\system32
- Insert the XP CD into the CD/DVD drive
- Click on Start -> Run -> type cmd
then press the ENTER key

- If this CD/DVD drive is called D, type D:
otherwise if it was E, then type E:
- The command prompt will then become D:\> or E:\>
- Type cd I386 then press the ENTER key
and your prompt will then become D:\I386>
Type expand -r sndvol32.ex_ c:\windows\system32 respecting the spaces and then press the ENTER key
