What is the “index key”?

Hello, I currently have a laptop and I want to connect it to my Livebox via Wi-Fi. My laptop detects the Livebox but the signal is protected, and when I try to connect my laptop it asks me for the "index key" (I only have 4 choices, 1 2 3 and 4) and then it asks for the (or the) "WEP hex key" what is that? is it the 16-digit code (the WEP key?)

yes, the index is 1 (I've never seen the others used)

WEP is broken, if your box is on WEP, it is easily hackable... in terms of cracking time, it's usually between 5 and 120 minutes .... so anyway, I recommend switching to WPA!

I don’t remember if it’s WEP or WAP, I recall that I had to change the security to connect my PlayStation, and that I had lots of problems afterward with the computers.

But if it’s WPA can I still connect my laptop? And I’m not worried about hacking, I have no concerns to worry about.

  => no worries? the HADOPI law provides a fine of €1,500 (€3,000 for repeated offenses) for "failure to secure the internet connection" .... basically that means that if your neighbor (or someone else) hacks you, and downloads (or worse), you risk a €1,500 fine..... if you have nothing to worry about, it's because you have the means to shell out €1,500 without batting an eye. you're lucky

  I can't even get a signal from my neighbor's one, and on top of that, with my computer where it's located I only have 2 bars out of 5. Honestly the Livebox that sends a signal at 382 km is too strong! I'll buy it directly! And even if my neighbor only had one bar of connection, long live the time it would take to download a movie. Aside from that, could you help me tell me what the "WEP hex key" is?

  never heard of "touche hex WEP"
  but, I think touche == key in English
  touche hex WEP< => hex wep key <=> hexadecimal wep key
  so yes, in my opinion it asks for the wep key
