Question

Hello, HI5 is a way to recover your Hotmail password.. it retrieves the list of your contacts from your address book and creates a database of addresses to send ads, or backdoor viruses or spyware.. and that.. that's just the "nice" side.. imagine what they could do with your login and password.... use your own messaging to send horrors.. then get into your PC.. steal your confidential data .... and that's just the beginning..!!

Luckily, I have a very good antivirus, Bitfender, that quickly blocked it, but the problem is that this email under the name "high ..." takes over all your contact list and sends this email on your behalf!!! In any case, registration can be done with any email address (hotmail or others!), maybe even a fake one... To follow your account, you just need to log in again to check your mail or other requests! Plus, you are not required to use the same password as your personal email! As for Sana's issue, it's a well-known virus... Don't be paranoid, hi5 is legit, and since it has an international title like MySpace and other interactive systems of the sort, it would have been locked up a long time ago if it were stealing Hotmail passwords! Plus, knowing that it has its own password, I wonder how it could steal your Hotmail password lol seriously, don't be paranoid all the time, do your research before making such nonsense... There are also other platforms like hi5 that serve to create friend lists and all; personally, I still recommend only signing up for one like that, otherwise it takes too much management time and you end up getting lost a bit!! Just to clarify a point, this kind of site uses Curl requests which do not store personal data by default... So if the site chooses to copy the data during the requests, we can't know about it.

Moreover, this site is very well-known in Latin America and the USA, so no issues... personally, I have more spam and problems with Yahoo without ever having given my email address...

At one point during your registration, you arrive on a page with your MSN contact list, but there is a big BUT because YOU choose who will receive the request... I only sent 3 requests via email. I’ve been registered for over two years and honestly, I’m not disappointed; my PC is always in perfect condition, I’ve never had a problem, and it allows me to stay in touch with all my friends.  I’m 33 years old, and honestly, if HI5 were a risky site, I would have seen it; I have the experience.  So stop worrying about unfounded things and also stop believing rumors! HI5 is an internationally recognized site, and there is no risk in being registered there. If there is a risk, it comes from your computer, and in that case, you have just as much chance of seeing your passwords stolen on Hi5 as on Yahoo Mail or Hotmail or anything else.   You need to stop with the two-cent paranoia; otherwise, you should stop checking your emails because you have to enter your passwords on your computer.

I signed up recently and yesterday I received messages on MSN indicating that I had sent messages from an address that has since disappeared. I checked, the email address still exists and this so-called email I received was accompanied by attachments and classified as "junk" on Hotmail. Well first, I advise everyone who arrives on this forum to read the posted messages !!!!! Because answering the same question 50 times is annoying !!! I checked a bit on HI5 (even though my friends' invitations have always been flagged as dangerous by MSN, why: simply because MSN has realized the extent of HI5 on the internet and especially the USELESS spam it sends in the form of invitations!) And personally, I strongly doubt that this site can do anything to you as long as you don’t DOWNLOAD anything from it (because that might be questionable).  Moreover, if Hi5 tries to do something with your MSN, this is only by logic and not by virus or anything else, but above all ANYONE can find your HOTMAIL address and all the information about you such as your age, your home address, your hobbies, your preferences, etc....(well, I don't know too much, I haven't spent much time on a site I don't like) So possibly find your password; if they can't, they can still find out the secret question such as: what is your favorite character (something you would have indicated in your HI5 profile)  Watch out for this !!!!  I don’t defend HI5, which annoys me with its SPAMS, nor those who support a theory of “malevolence” on the part of HI5.  But before you say “I caught this and that virus or trojans on HI5,” ask yourself rather the question: maybe it's the last file I just downloaded that SUCKS !!!! [In this case, the only advice is to restore your system on your PC or even defragment or clean your disk]  I was on Emule and I downloaded so many things that I ended up catching trojans and loads of viruses! But I got through it; trojans are the most annoying: someone literally spied on me for over a month, they could make me enter any site (paid or not), bring me to chats, see all my files even confidential ones (and delete them at will), they could turn on my webcam and see what I was doing (I don’t care, I have a cover :D) up to opening my CD-ROM drive. Moreover, this person turned out to blackmail me concerning my MSN contacts and my private life !!!!  On the internet, the only keywords are: CAUTION AND VIGILANCE (sorry for the spelling mistakes, I really suck at French)

@Psyco : Defragmentation does not delete files, but there are software for that and with a real-time antivirus that scans incoming files (like Avast which is by far the best value for money being free ^^) and well this problem does not exist....  As for Hi5 invitations, they are real spam, hoax, fake or whatever you want because receiving 2 invitations from 2 people living under the same roof in less than 5 minutes is more than suspicious... and as for the site itself I don’t want to know because I avoid all this kind of useless site where encounters are superficial and are often filled with ads and other filth... By reading all the emails, I realize that maybe some people had a translation problem on hi5.  When HI5 asks you for your password, it's to send an invitation to all your contacts; however, you have the option to choose whom you want to invite: just click in the right place.  Honestly, I receive a lot more spam from Yahoo than from hi5.  Moreover, you always have the option to choose whether or not to receive emails from hi5, go to edit personal settings.

Hello,  Be careful with Hi5.  I had the same kind of experience with Netlog regarding my email password.  I signed up without providing my password and it worked.  I'm a bit paranoid when it comes to computer security.  No one will have my password.  A simple solution is to open an email account that you will only use for this site, where you won't put any contacts and where you won't send emails from your original address. The reason you don't face this kind of risk on this site is that you don't download anything to use it, so aside from by the operation of the Holy Spirit, I don't see how this site could send you a Trojan horse. It makes me laugh to read this ^^ Since when does MSN belong to one PC and one alone? MSN, as well as all the information from the account, is stored on a server somewhere under the control of Bill and his buddies (at least in theory). Thanks to that, we can use our Hotmail account wherever we want :) So your Trojan horse idea is useless since you're not directly accessing the person's PC to get the information.... HI5 is all the rage, especially hurting the webmasters of FREE dating sites.....I have one myself and strangely, I receive invitations on my email from the dating site....so, it's not just hotmail that's involved.

I find it completely ugly on the part of some members to take advantage of FREE dating sites to promote HI5 and all the others....I see no point in it....just poor fools.

As for the bragging of the little newbies (I haven't read everything) but on a site like this, if you allow sharing tips for hotmail in private messages.....well Mr. howtocome.com, you're no better than HI5 and the rest....

Hello,  I got "caught" by Hi5 today. I've been wasting my time for 3 hours trying to delete my account using their instructions: "We're sorry to hear that you're thinking of leaving hi5. In order to cancel your account first log in at www.hi5.com. Then click on "Account" on the top right corner of your home page. At the bottom of the page that appears, you will see a link that says "Cancel My Account". Click on this link and follow the instructions. ..... " I've clicked on Cancel My Account at least 10 times but nothing works. The problem might be that I work on a Mac, I don't know, but I can't understand anything. I'm really fed up!!! I received the invite from a friend. Happy to hear from her, and after searching on Google what Hi5 was, I thought, well, it's innocent, and since my friend is abroad, I was happy to have a contact!  Unfortunately, she didn’t send the invitation. Hi5 did! She must have apologized to quite a few people!   I see that you've been talking about this issue since October 10, 2005... if Hi5 really wanted to be just a nice group that brings people together, they would change their page to prevent these invites that have been circulating for a long time! This site should be better regulated by certain legislations. Freedom stops when others abuse us. And I still can't get rid of this damn Hi5 account!   And what if we decided to stop living in the virtual world a bit? Isn't the real world outside more interesting?    If anyone can help me with my problem, that would be great!
