Connecting a desktop to a flat screen

Hello,

I want to connect my desktop to my flat screen.
So I bought a cable for the sound and then I connected the monitor cable to the screen but it doesn't work. It says no signal on the screen.
On the desktop, the blue screen port was covered by a protection with screws. I have an HDMI port on the computer, should I connect it via HDMI then?

Hello
VGA or HDMI connection works the same, just go to your screen menu or input depending on the commands and select RGB or HDMI if you are connected via HDMI cable and confirm to get the signal
