Lightning surge ethernet cable not working

Hello,

First of all, thank you for kindly reading this message.

During a storm last week, I had a flash of lightning behind the computer. The computer still works.

The only thing that doesn’t work is the internet. It says "a network cable is unplugged." I’ve read advice on various forums and I’m not sure what the diagnosis is!!!

I tested the cable on a laptop, it works.

The Device Manager does not show a yellow warning or exclamation next to it, which would mean it’s functioning, presumably!

Moreover, in the Device Manager no component shows a yellow warning or exclamation.

Thank you for your help and please tell me what I should do!

    Hi,

start by changing your ethernet filter. Very often that’s the first thing that burns out ;)

If it still doesn’t work, change the cable...

      thank you for your reply

the cable works because I tested it on a laptop...and the ethernet connection works on the laptop.

But what is the ethernet filter !?!? how should I proceed to replace it?

The box is working I think because I have TV, phone, and wifi on the mobile and when I plug the Ethernet into the laptop and the same box it also works!

The filter is what’s stuck to your phone jack :p Request a new one from your agency, I think they’ll give you one for free ;)

      Otherwise it’s 3-4 € in a supermarket...

ok but why would the filter work on the laptop when connected by ethernet and not on the desktop?
