Hello, I have an HP laptop running Vista. Let me explain my problem: the last time, the battery drained and the PC shut down, which is nothing unusual. I turned it back on and saw an error message. "HP Battery Alert" tells me that my battery has a low capacity and below it is an error code: Error code 601. Since then, every time I start my PC, I always get this error message, and my battery lasts less time than before. I would like to know the cause and if it can be removed because I really don't want to go back to the service center, especially since I lost my hard drive just two weeks ago... I was advised to come here, maybe it's a virus that's draining my battery or something else? Thank you for responding :)

Configuration: Windows Vista / Internet Explorer 7.0

Hello, have you tried to start your laptop without the battery, just by plugging it into its power source?

According to my research, error 601 corresponds to a battery, if we can say faulty, and you describe its symptoms.

If starting the laptop without the battery does not display your error, I think you should contact your customer service (still unfortunately..., HP struggles with its laptops) and try to make use of the warranty if your laptop is not very old, but it's not a sure thing; it seems to me that for them, the battery is considered a consumable that is unstable in terms of lifespan, which varies according to how you use it. A battery should be regularly drained and recharged; it's better to avoid using a laptop plugged in (for example, leaving it plugged in all day, because the battery being constantly charged significantly reduces its lifespan, ...)

Thank you for this information; I work directly on the main power supply.
