It all depends on what we are doing!
Direct additions of percentages can be made if they relate to different parts of the same whole:
- If the foundation work represents 10% of the total amount of the work and if the masonry represents 20% of the same total amount of the work, then the overall structure (foundations + masonry) represents 10+20=30% of the amount of the work.
- On the other hand, if 60% of the masonry walls are façade walls, then the façade represents 60%*20%=12% of the amount of the work. In this case, these are "percentages of percentages".
