Hello everyone
During my trip to the USA, I bought a very efficient JVC camcorder. When I connect via USB in memory card mode, there is no problem. But when I switch the camcorder to video to transfer the moving images, the camcorder is not recognized by XP.
Do I need a driver?
The model is not marketed in France and JVC France does not know what to respond.
I speak little American to send a message to JVC USA
Thank you for your help
Configuration: XP Home JVC GR-D295 Camcorder USB

    Hello everyone,

Actually, it's not very complicated to get a good result with digital video.

1- You need to capture on a PC. The DV format (that of the camcorder) is a good format to work with. It's digital, so there's no loss of quality during the various processing stages. The only drawback is that it's bulky, as it's video at 25 frames per second. So, the USB capture is not fast enough; you need to use the FireWire (1394) of the PC.

2- Set the capture software to perform no processing during acquisition; you should work in AVI or DV format to avoid losing quality.

3- Once the film is on the PC, the possibilities are almost limitless because there are so many video editing software options available. It's up to you to choose based on what you want to do. One piece of advice though, make sure to check the available formats for output to DVD or others, especially if you hope to play the film on a standalone player.

See you, and Happy New Year to everyone.

    Hi Wakrim
I don't know this model, but JVC provides drivers for Windows XP.
    Didn't you get a CD?
I have some JVC drivers; we can try if you want!

    Hello,

I have a problem with my JVC GR-D280E; apparently, I need the Windows XP service pack 2 for it to work.

But it's not looking good: my camcorder talks to my PC and I can control the camcorder from the PC, but I don’t get any video images displayed on the PC (source = DV), just a green image sometimes splotched with turquoise blue: it's pretty, but I didn’t film 2 hours of that! ... If I understood correctly, I need to use FireWire instead of USB, so I have to buy something else or wander through the fog to fix the problem; it’s frustrating. I should have just bought a good old second-hand VHS or gone back to Super 8 projected on a sheet!

Good luck and happy new year!

    Hello,
I have a question regarding a camcorder of the same brand (http://www.rueducommerce.fr/Photo-Video-Numerique/Camescope-Num/Mini-DV/JVC/362645-Camescope-GR-D23E.htm). I want to buy a laptop to store my films, but the fact that my digital camcorder doesn't have a card reader/recorder but only tapes makes me think it's impossible to transfer my films to my PC. However, my camcorder has a FireWire output. Therefore, I would like to know if anyone knows if I can use FireWire to transfer/store my films on my laptop, or if I simply need to buy a new camcorder that uses memory cards. If that's the case, what can I use the FireWire port on my camcorder for?
Thank you in advance for your responses.

@ Vieu Bison Boiteu > Thank you for your response; however, could you please suggest some "video capture" programs, as I am a beginner in computer science, and I must admit that I still have quite a bit of difficulty with online searches :p
    Thanks in advance.
