Question

Hello, I have a Pentium 4 PC with the latest version of Windows XP. I can't start Excel. A window is prompting me for the SKU011.CAB file. How can I resolve this? Thank you in advance JR

Start/Run. Type Regedit + OK
Follow to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> Software -> Microsoft -> Office -> 11.0 -> Delivery
There you will find a directory like 90000409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9
Select this directory.
On the right side of the screen, right-click on CDCache.
And set the value to 0.

Sometimes a message appears like: Error 1311. Source file not found: D:\MSO Cache\All Users\9000040c-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9\PA561401.CAB.
The missing .CAB file should be searched in the following pages ftp://82.235.13.34/logiciel/Office%202003 & ftp://206.191.114.102/Microsoft%20Office%202003/OFFICE/
The location where it should be installed is indicated in the message reporting its absence.

This may be a bit more complicated than what I mentioned in my previous post. Here is what I found on a forum, in English;

SYMPTOMS
When you try to update your Microsoft Office 2003 program from the Office Update Web site or try to install Office 2003 SP1 from the Microsoft site, you receive the following error message:

Installation Error: File not Found
A required installation file SKU011.CAB could not be found.

Original Installation Source Required:

If you installed program name from a CD, please insert your CD. If you installed program name over your computer network, please browse to the installation source on your network. Once you have located your installation source, click OK.

CAUSE
This problem may occur if one of the following conditions is true:

- The Local Installation Source has been disabled
- Source files in the C:\MSOCache\All Users\90000409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9 folder are missing.
- The \MSOCache folder has been deleted.
- Office Source Engine File (OSA.exe) has been renamed to OSA.xxx

Even if you copy the SKU011.cab file from the Office 2003 CD to the C:\MSOCache\All Users\90000409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9 the error repeats and it deletes the file from the said folder while applying the SP1.

RESOLUTION
To work around this problem, use one of the following methods when you receive the error message that is mentioned in the “Symptoms” section:

1. Download the Local Installation Source Tool (LISTool.exe) from the following location:-http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/2003/journ/LISTool.htm
Install and run this tool.
Choose the option Enable LIS, Click Next.
Select the Office Programs you would like to enable the Local Installation
Source for, Choose Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003, Click Next.
Click Enable.
If it will ask for the Office 2003 installation files then, Click Browse, locate the Office 2003 program installation folder on your network or Office 2003 CD and then click OK.
A message box will appear confirming the update.

2. Rename the file name OSA.xxx to OSA.exe

In fact, Josh Hope's document seems to be a copy of this one. But strangely, the .cab requested by Camille E2561404 is not listed there.

Thank you for your help. Your second link indeed leads to nothing, but the first one allowed me to find my .CAB. So... thanks again... But now I'm being told that this directory does not contain the file "QUICKANIM.PPT_1036". It does contain "QUICKANIM.PPT_1033", but not "QUICKANIM.PPT_1036". It's frustrating, isn't it? I've searched elsewhere but have found absolutely nothing. Do you have any tips?

Clarifications on the second link If we modify it to http://www.gegereka.com/?query=PA561401, it allows access to the download of PA561401.cab If we reduce it to http://www.gegereka.com/?query, we get a page that allows searching for the file by filling in the appropriate box.  this directory does not contain Which directory is it about? .ppt is a Powerpoint extension. If you can ignore that, it should affect neither Word nor Excel, but only prevent animations in Powerpoint.

I don't understand.  What you want to do is simply install the PowerPoint viewer?  Quickanim is a file used for animations but The PowerPoint viewer does not display diagram animations correctly. Instead of being animated, the diagram will appear as finished.  I found the executable that allowed me to install this viewer. It's Ppviewer.exe, version 6.00.2600.0000 (1.86 MB). I have Office 2000 and I do not remember having any issues during this installation.  How are you proceeding? Do you have Office 2003 installed?

Hello My initial problem: Excel refuses to open and asks for the installation CD of Office 2003, then the infamous SKU011.CAB. *****thanks +++ to JMP59 for the feedback and the follow-up My second problem is the MT561403.CAB (like Marie) ****thanks to Marie for this error: "Users\9000040c-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9\PA561401.CAB. Check that this file exists and that you are authorized to access it.", which helped me understand that I wasn't alone.  And now I'm stuck because the "file patches" xx.CAB don't take....  I consulted English-speaking sites and attempted a reinstallation through a Microsoft program. This led me to the setup.exe of office11. Just led me there because I couldn't find a setup.exe. So, being very stubborn, I ran all the xx.exe files of office 11 in "program files". And foolishly but miraculously, I clicked on "excel.exe" and it worked! Goodbye patches, downloads, searching for phantom folders... it works. dominique

Thank you very much for giving me the opportunity to use this link to download the MT561403.CAB file, which was no longer allowing me to open my Excell software. I also highly recommend using this method and placing it in the directory mentioned in the error message.

Unlike other cases of error 1311 encountered so far, the file E2561404.CAB is not located here And it seems to be unavailable on the Internet.  Run a search in c:\ to see if it might be located elsewhere on your hard drive. If that yields nothing, check if it can be found on your Office 2003 CD.  -- Errare humanum est, perseverare diabolicum.

I don't have the Office 2003 CD installed by a friend.  Are you sure it's a legal version? From what I've seen in the meantime on the Internet, it could correspond to an illegal version downloaded online. Hello! I managed to download SKU011.CAB but there is no indication in the error message about where it should be installed. Additionally, I have a problem with the path "start/run/regedit ...", the "run" menu no longer exists, just like the "search" command and maybe others as well. How can I "bring them back" without having to reinstall Windows? Thank you.

Hello everyone. JM, I have carefully read the posts. My initial problem was with the file sku011, and now I have the same error message as Marie except that the file name ends with E4561404.cab. Where can I find it? What should I do? I absolutely need to use Excel to be able to work tonight. (Excel opens despite the error message; however, it is impossible to open the add-in macros (VBA analysis tool), it asks for installation and gives an error message again.) Whoever you are, thank you for your good advice. I just read the three pages, I thought I was late, the first post dates back to 2005, but I see that the problem persists!

In my particular case, I think I was installed with a pirated XP, so all the manipulations you provided are of no use to me!
Notably, I can't open a Word page!

Nevertheless, I thank you for at least trying, and your solutions may not work for everyone!! Too bad!

Hello,  this error message is, in my opinion, some kind of "bug" that occurs during installations or reinstallations of the same Office pack or packs of different versions... in short, it's nonsense from Microsoft.  The solution doesn't lie in searching for the requested file on an installation CD (usually it's not there!) but in correcting the Windows registry.  Here’s the procedure:  *Start Menu - Run - Type "regedit"  * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE - Software - Microsoft - Office - 11.0 - Delivery  * In "Delivery" there is usually only one directory like (900000040409-6000-11D3-8ef6546598797)  * Select this directory  * In the right window, you need to modify the "CDCache" key and change its value to "0"   There you go, the correction is simple and the result is instant, it was an Englishman who posted this on a specialized forum but I don't remember where...

Hello.  I have the same problem as you with this SKU011.CAB. Actually, I have several accounts on my computer. Mine is an administrator account while the other two are limited.  On the last limited account I created, the problem occurs. I don't have access to the registry as I should, and changes made in my admin account don't affect the issue.  That's why I'm in a bit of a deadlock and since my knowledge of computers is quite limited, I'm reaching out to you ;)  Thank you.

It's certainly very clear in your mind, but for me there's nothing to understand.  What is your CAB file? I understood it was SKU011.CAB, but I'm not so sure anymore. I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about regarding the MS561403 registry. Hi  unfortunately it doesn't work  I tried putting the files directly in: C:\MSOCache\AllUsers\90000409-60000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9 I tried putting the 13 dll files in a folder called PA561401.CAB  still the same  when I try to open Excel a window pops up indicating: preparing to install... then another window opens please wait while windows configures microsoft office professional edition 2003 it loads a bit and then bang error message: Error 1311. Source file not found: C:\MSOCache\AllUsers\90000409-60000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9\P­­A561401.CAC. verify that the file exists and that you can access it.  I've summarized everything to make sure we're talking about the same problem. I've never had the problem with the SKU011.CAB file  otherwise the dlls from the PA561401:CAB file I have them confirmed that they are the right files

It took me some time to understand that the P2561404.CAB file should not be uncompressed!

Hello,  Another method, but significantly more complicated! The one mentioned in post 2.  SYMPTOMS When you try to update your Microsoft Office 2003 program from the Office Update website or try to install the Office 2003 SP1 from the Microsoft site, you receive the following error message:  Installation Error: File not Found A required installation file SKU011.CAB could not be found.  Original Installation Source Required:  If you installed the program from a CD, please insert your CD. If you installed the program over your computer network, please browse to the installation source on your network. Once you have located your installation source, click OK.  CAUSE This problem may occur if one of the following conditions is true:  - The Local Installation Source has been disabled - Source files in the C:\MSOCache\All Users\90000409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9 folder are missing. - The \MSOCache folder has been deleted. - Office Source Engine File (OSA.exe) has been renamed to OSA.xxx  Even if you copy the SKU011.cab file from the Office 2003 CD to the C:\MSOCache\All Users\90000409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9 the error repeats and it deletes the file from the said folder while applying the SP1.  RESOLUTION To work around this problem, use one of the following methods when you receive the error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section:  1. Download the Local Installation Source Tool (LISTool.exe) from the following location: -http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/2003/journ/LISTool.htm Install and run this tool. Choose the option Enable LIS, Click Next. Select the Office Programs you would like to enable the Local Installation Source for, Choose Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003, Click Next. Click Enable. If it asks for the Office 2003 installation files, then Click Browse, locate the Office 2003 program installation folder on your network or Office 2003 CD and then click OK. A message box will appear confirming the update.  2. Rename the file name OSA.xxx to OSA.exe  -- To err is human, to persist is diabolical.

Yeah, it's progressing, it's progressing, thank you. I downloaded the thing, installed the thing, did everything, up to: If it asks for the Office 2003 installation files then, Click Browse, locate the Office 2003 program installation folder on your network or Office 2003 CD and then click OK. A message box will appear confirming the update.  And now, I don't understand anything anymore. I don't have the installation CD (sometimes I think that would have helped), and I don't know where to find the file/folder/program, anyway, the thing it's asking for :(  Why is computer stuff so complicated? :(

Hello,  I followed the instructions above and changed the 2 to 0. The problem is that now my computer is telling me the following: "Error 1311. Source file not found: C:\MSOcache\AllUsers\9000040c-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9\YT561401.CAB. Please verify that this file exists and that you have permission to access it."  However, this file does exist on my computer since it is exactly where I changed the value from 2 to 0. And I have administrator rights on my computer. What should I do?  Thank you in advance for your help!!

Well, this file does indeed exist on my computer I'm not so sure about that. It probably exists on the installation CD, but that doesn't mean it's been copied to your hard drive. And even if it's on your hard drive, it's not necessarily in the right place.  Have you run a search in Windows Explorer? Are you showing hidden files?  -- To err is human, to persist is diabolical.

Hello!!  I also encountered this problem this morning with Excel. But this post helped me a lot, I followed the instructions and now it’s working again!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! It also fixed another problem I had with Office: I hadn’t been able to update it with Windows Update for some time. All the Office updates were failing.  But I just tried again and now they’re working, my computer is finally up to date!!  A big thank you!!

To follow up on the first step, the requested files can be found on the site http://ptrebier.free.fr/office%200003.  When the relevant file is located in the directory, upload it to the location indicated by the message displayed on the screen.  For me, it worked; I have regained the functionalities of EXCEL, WORD, and PowerPoint. Thanks to everyone who helped me through this forum, including those who created this site.

Having had the same completely stupid problem for 2 months, and although I have a paid version of which I obviously no longer have the CD 8 years later, I can confirm that the steps mentioned above work well.  The only problem may possibly come from the infamous missing cab file; you need to note its references carefully (not the same number for everyone) and search for it on Google (I personally found it on 4share.com) for free, of course. From there, download the zip file and without decompressing it, insert it into the correct folder (the path to this folder is indicated in the error message).  Thank you all.
