Hello,
I have a SONY BRAVIA 46HX700 TV that is WiFi compatible. The WiFi dongle is optional (see http://www.sony.fr/product/tpa-other-tv-accessories/uwa-br100) and is sold very expensively. I would like to know if it is possible to use any USB WiFi dongle (Belkin, Linksys, etc.) instead?

Hello
Have you managed to connect a keyboard to these TVs?
I have the KDL EX701 with a USB port. I'm wondering if a PC keyboard can be connected?

Same compatibility issue between a Sony Bravia KDL-46EX500 TV and the Netgear WiFi-N 300 Mbps WNA3100 USB key, which is reputed for its quality. I sent a message to Sony France support to get the list of compatible Wi-Fi USB keys.
I will keep you updated if I receive a response.

Confirmation is provided by the consumer service of Sony France that there is no alternative to purchasing the Sony UWA-BR100AEP key:

Hi,
I've been asking myself the exact same question as you since I got a Bravia EX 5. Did you find an answer anywhere? I was able to connect via wired and noticed the available content. Mainly the US offerings. Dailymotion and M6 Player mentioned on the packaging, but I haven't seen them.
Cheers

For Sepia => Even if the box is upstairs, a wired connection is possible using the electrical network. You need to buy powerline adapters. One near the TV, the other upstairs near the box. These adapters plug into electrical outlets. From the TV to the adapter, a standard RJ45 Ethernet cable. The same goes between the box and the powerline adapter upstairs. Many models tested (with prices) at this link https://www.lesnumeriques.com/adaptateur-cpl/comparatif-adaptateurs-cpl-a296.html
Note: average speed higher than WiFi.

It's true that it's very annoying to type a text with the remote control.
Has anyone tried connecting a USB keyboard to this TV?

Hello,
I have the same problem. I bought a Hercule wifi dongle, but it doesn't work. After gathering some information, it appears that this dongle requires a driver that the TV obviously does not have. I'm afraid I'll encounter the same issue with all wifi dongles. I feel a bit cheated, as nothing in the documentation or on Sony's website mentioned this restriction.
Good luck

Hello
Prefer Ethernet over Wifi. The result is immediate at a lower cost and the speeds are up to the mark. However, the content is so poor that the smart TV has little interest. It's just a commercial argument.
On the other hand, I connected my 46EX700 to the living room PC (via HDMI) and I must say the result is beyond my expectations and very closely identical to the result on the PC monitor. Playing on a 46' screen is truly amazing.

Hey,
Just a small addition to my comment: since then I’ve tested the installation of my Wireless Space. And I got a completely unexpected result. In fact, the Lacie acts as an internet relay for my Sony TV. The TV uses the drive and its Wi-Fi system to access the internet via the RJ45 cable between the two (and my DLINK router).
Two results and a conclusion:
- I have all the internet content and it's less lame than I imagined: videos categorized by site: YouTube, Eurosport, and about 20 other ones I would say. Possibilities to search for any video but without a keyboard it’s slow ;o)
Apparently there is also a VOD system... very unexpected (in DivX) not yet explored...
- my attempt to make my Lacie hard drive a storage place for various files for my TV doesn’t work and I don’t know why...
If anyone knows what I need to do to make my external HDD an identified file source... I would light a candle for them at church.
Conclusion: science advances by error ;o)
Greetings to all.

I think that to get your external HDD recognized by the TV, you'll need to format it to FAT32. Since XP doesn't do that for drives over 8GB, you need to use a free software called "Fat32Formatter". It can be downloaded from various websites.

I have a Sony 47EX510 and I bought the appropriate dongle. Once the network discovery was completed and the WEP key set, I expected to have full internet access on my TV, but… not at all. Aside from some VOD replays from M6, Eurosport, YouTube, and other exotic channels, there’s nothing interesting; in any case, it doesn’t provide additional access to the internet. It’s just pre-packaged programs that are served again. For my part, I connected my laptop to my TV with a VGA cable and a sound output, then I connected my external disk to my laptop, and when I access the PC in the Sony menu, I have the duplication of the Sony desktop on a 117cm screen. Since my PC has all the codecs, I stream directly from it to the TV via VLC. My only problem is that the mouse is a bit far to serve as a remote control, and wireless mice rarely indicate their maximum distance. Thanks to this setup, I haven’t needed a multimedia disk, and now that ultra-portables are the same price as a multimedia device, it makes more sense to buy one that can at least serve as a PC. My most annoying problem is that my DivX files were created in different formats, and before watching a movie, I have to adjust the video settings for each film: either in 16:9, 2.21, 4:3, etc., or crop the image in those same formats, otherwise, the image is either too zoomed in or not enough; I do a test on a segment of the film until I find the right proportions for the characters. It takes me 2 or 3 minutes for each movie, no more.
Connected televisions are not meant to replace an iPad or a PC for browsing the Web, but to offer innovative services on a large screen that require an Internet connection.
I invite you all, for example, to experience the Digital Concert Hall service from the Berlin Philharmonic on your Sony; I was blown away by the quality of the image and sound of the broadcasts of these concerts. It is possible to buy tickets for the concerts and watch them in real-time as if you were there. Absolutely amazing for music lovers.

The TV is not a PC with Windows.
USB devices all include their driver, which they make available to Windows as soon as you plug them in. (Have you noticed "your device is now installed and ready to use" near the clock?)
The Sony TV includes the driver for the Sony USB dongle and only that one. Don't waste your time or money trying to plug in anything else.

Hello everyone,
I bought a Sony KDL37EX500AEP TV today and I was also wondering about this! I've been looking everywhere online for answers but apparently, there is only the SONY UWA-BR100 adapter offered for this TV...
how could we find out which driver would be compatible with the TV? Or which brand of dongle would have a better chance of working?
I will continue my research with some "geek" friends... we'll see what they tell me...
Good luck to everyone!

Hi,
I have a Sony KDL-40EX500 TV, I tested it with the Wi-Fi dongle from my Livebox but it indicates that the hardware is not compatible.
In my opinion, I really need to buy the Sony dongle :/, but it’s clear that it’s very expensive, I think I’m just going to run a network cable, it’ll be quicker!

Hello everyone!
Enough of this technology, it bites my ass! Sales arguments
they add a ridiculous option (Daily Motion or YouTube, usually for teenagers)!
And the high-end Sony models are generally for the rich.
In technology, there is nothing better than Wi-Fi built into the device, but on the other hand, you have to use a Blu-ray player,
there's the Samsung BDC-8200 and the PANASONIC - DMP-BD85EF below!
Internet@TV is an exclusive technology.
Connect to the Internet with remarkable ease and no
limits. You can organize, add, and delete content via the application library.
Many models also allow you to make video calls over the Internet.
Thus, you are not only connected to your videos but also to your loved ones.
Programs. The BDC-8200 Blu-ray players have a hard drive and TNT.
You can now enjoy films, music tracks, and photos stored on your PC
and your portable devices, directly on the screen of your television.
You should expect to pay between 250 and 400 euros at Ruecommerce or other sites, enjoy!

Nasrosran,
"without any limits" where did you see that?
It is clear that Bill Gates dreamed of it many times but never actually implemented it, but the convergence of TV and family PC is happening in the sense that TV is rapidly evolving towards the PC.
The PC will initially lose some freedom, but this is temporary.
In the system as it evolves, the family PC will disappear and the TV will take back its good old place, certainly with some extensions: it could become the central point where everyone connects their terminal to execute whatever they want: watching TV, online gaming, or surfing/chatting/telephony/videophony. In this perspective, networks still have many developments ahead of them.
Wi-Fi will then only serve to connect mobile terminals to a well-fibered TV on the global network.

Hi. Thanks for your posts.
As for me, I have a KDL-40EX500 from 2010, the best LED TV purchase tests in Belgium.
But I have the same feeling about the Wi-Fi ads. Annoying!
Well, I’ll drop that option then.
What I bought is a 2TB wireless space from Lacie. I’m going to store everything on this nice box via Wi-Fi through my PC or other devices. And I’ll leave it next to the TV with an RJ45.
The design is similar, it will fit perfectly.
Well... it's still to be set up ;o)
And too bad for the "great internet content" ;o)
Have fun everyone.
