PS3: Trophy Information Recording

Since last night, there has been a buzz at Sony. A problem has indeed affected a number of PlayStation 3 consoles worldwide. The symptoms are as follows: unable to connect to the PSN, unable to play downloaded games, even offline, unable to access trophies, error message "8001050F", unable to play certain Blu-ray games, including Heavy Rain. The date on your console is also set to January 1, 2000 (Happy New Year, then...). To console you, even our PS3 Debug, which hasn't been connected to the Internet for quite some time, is affected by the problem. Right on the day we received God Of War III! Frustrating!

It seems that the Slim consoles are not affected by the problem. According to Examiner, Sony's technical support plans to resolve everything in the morning, with the solution not causing any loss of saves or trophies. We are less optimistic on the Sony Europe side, with the official message left on the blog stating: "[...] it is however impossible to say when and how this problem will be resolved". We will obviously keep you updated on the next developments of what will remain THE bug of the PlayStation 3. Feel free to share your experiences in the comments so we can refine the conditions/symptoms of this issue.

One last thing: we advise you not to turn on your PlayStation 3 if you have not yet been affected by the problem. It's better to wait for Sony to fix everything before tempting fate.

It has absolutely nothing to do with the PlayStation Network; it's a bug coming from the internal clock of the console (not the one that displays the date and time on the screen, there's no point in changing those). This clock is stupidly looking for a February 29 that doesn't exist, which prevents trophy updates and connections to the PSN. The problem does not occur on PS3 Slims as they are newer and set up differently.

The only thing to do is to wait for Sony to release a patch that will need to be installed on the console via a USB stick (well, without PSN there’s no download). There's even talk that it could be a hardware issue rather than a software one, so let’s hope they can fix it with a patch as we wish, but given the time they’re taking, it must not be simple at Sony's offices.

So, we just have to wait patiently without saying everything and anything, it doesn't help and serves no purpose, even if it can be relaxing from time to time.

It's happening to me on 2 games that I've tested, MW2 and Assassin's Creed 2, for about 2 hours now. However, I've noticed that I can't connect to the PlayStation Network, so that might be the cause.

I TRIED PES 2010, CALL OF DUTY MODERN WARFARE 2, AND GTA AND THEY ALL TELL ME THE SAME THING. FOR MY PART, I HAVE NEVER ENCOUNTERED THIS PROBLEM. I PLAYED ALL WEEK UNTIL IMPOSSIBLE HOURS, BUT WELL, WE'LL WAIT, I THINK THAT'S THE BEST THING TO DO.

Is it certain that the problem comes from the PSN because my Play isn't connected to the internet right now and I'm having the same issue?

Personally guys, I just put in COD 4 and it's working (single player mode of course...) it no longer mentions trophies but MW2 still doesn't work so it's a mess!!!!!

Same with PES 2010, it's impossible to start the game, whether online or locally, and this has been the case for about an hour.

Yeah same here, I’ve been getting the message "unable to complete trophy information recording" since I added the PES 2010 downloadable content (about 2.5 hours ago). It was working fine, but after I restarted the console, the game won’t launch anymore...
I’ve tried uninstalling the downloaded content and the latest saves, but it still won't start.

And it won't connect to PS Network either to sync the trophies...
If someone can find a solution, that would be great. Thanks.
