Videos from sites like YouTube or DailyMotion are edited in FLV format. These are small resolutions intended for small screens (iPods, iPhones) or to watch them as they are. It is not possible to "create" quality; you cannot replace missing pixels. Furthermore, conversions only diminish the quality of the original format.

I advise against Real Player; it's a problematic player. You can install Real Alternative instead. The best option is to install nothing at all (it quickly leads to conflicts) and use VLC Player, which plays almost all formats. As Uncle rightly said, for downloads, if you're on Firefox, it's best to use the DownloadHelper plugin, which is the most convenient and effective tool.
