Hello,
I am currently on Windows Vista and I would like to switch to Windows SEVEN. The problem is that I don't know which version to choose between x64 and x86.

When I use EVEREST to check the type of processor, I get this: System type PC with x86 ACPI processor

Should I use Windows Seven x86? If I use x64, will there be a change? Please explain to me, thank you.

Configuration: Windows Vista Firefox 3.5.3

  No, computers are not twisted, it's just that you're not looking at the past, nor the complete terms: x86 is the family....
  - 8086 => 16 bits
  - 80186 => 16 bits
  - 80286 => 16 bits
  - 80386 => 32 bits
  - 80486 => 32 bits
  - 80586 (Pentium) => 32 bits
  - 80686 (Pentium 2) => 32 bits
  - P3, P4, Intel Core, Intel Core 2, i3, i5, i7 ....
  
  So x86 is the family that has evolved, we could say it stops at 32 bits... the x86-64 part being just the extension of this same family with the 64 bits instructions...
  
  If you want Intel with only 64 bits, you've got IA64

You must install a 32-bit Windows 7, because your processor is 32-bit,
and cannot run a 64-bit system
but quite the opposite, if you had a 64-bit processor you could install a 32-bit Windows 7 system.

    Hello
    if you have a 32-bit CPU you cannot install a 64-bit operating system
    which requires a 64-bit CPU (it runs twice as fast) and with different drivers
    and you need at least 4 GB of memory,
    if you install a 64-bit operating system on a 32-bit one, it will run in 32-bit mode. And it will likely bug out.

    Whoa, you shouldn't say just anything; the only difference between 32-bit and 64-bit is the address range, it has nothing to do with speed...

  no not twice as much information but information that is twice as big (for math there will be more digits after the decimal point, for example), it's not the same. However, the address range is much much much ...... much larger (2^64) which consequently increases the maximum size of RAM.

see what type of Vista system you have and how many Bits (processor) 32 or 64.

You need to give us the model of your processor.
The 64-bit processors that we generally use are x86_64, so they are always based on the x86 architecture (which started at 8 bits, then 16, 32, and now 64 bits)

It is not the same architecture as the IA64 architecture of Itanium processors, for example....

If you have 4 GB of RAM or more, you need to switch to 64 bits (if your processor supports it).

It seems to me that all Core 2 Duo processors have the x86_64 instruction set. So, it all depends on the RAM you have installed or that you wish to install.

No particularity, I simply have the choice of having Windows Seven in x64 or x86, and since I have the installation DVD of the x64, it's fine, I can use it?

I have an HP i3-3217 CPU @1.80GHz with 4.00 GB of RAM, of which 2.41 GB is used, and Windows shows that I have a 32-bit operating system with an x64 processor. I would like to know if I can upgrade to a 64-bit version, as I am using Windows 8.1. Thank you.
