Hello,

First of all, I want to point out that this is my first post, so if I make mistakes, please feel free to let me know.
Actually, I think I have a pretty complex problem: I just bought a new microphone for Counter Strike Source, and when I use my mic on MSN, Skype, etc., everything works perfectly. Even when I go into the game menu, I go to Options/Voice/Test Microphone, and it works very well; the sound is excellent. But when I'm playing, all the players tell me to be quiet because my mic is making crackling noises, high-pitched sounds... I've tried everything: updated sound drivers, config.cfg, the control panel with audio devices, and all that blah blah blah ^^
But the problem persists, and I would really like your help in fixing it because it's really annoying. So, thanks in advance!

    Hi.
    Just for your information, are you playing with the sound in the headset?
    And do you have a fan nearby or are you playing in a noisy environment?

    Yes, I have a headset with a microphone and I am alone in my room. I hope that can help you.

    I thought your crackling was due to an outside source blowing on your mic... Since I'm no longer a CS player, I don't have anything in front of me to help you, sorry, I'll pass the baton.

    Have you activated the mic boost by the way?
    Otherwise, it's the microphone of your headset that's activated in-game, right? (not that of a hypothetical webcam or anything)

    Yes, the mic boost is enabled and I can't seem to disable it, and I'm sure it's my headset that is activated in-game. The most frustrating part is that my headset is brand new!!!
    And I want to reiterate that the sound is excellent when I test the microphone in the game menu; the headset glitches and crackles ONLY when I'm playing online!

    Disable the mic boost already and retest.

    I can't manage to disable the mic boost. When I turn it off and apply the changes, it reverts back to being enabled when I go back into the options menu, as if the settings are permanent and cannot be changed!
