Unable to select "Freeze Panes"

Hello,

First of all, I want to point out that I am not very knowledgeable about computers.

My problem is the following:
I am trying to freeze a row in an Excel table. I know I have to select FREEZE PANES in the WINDOW menu, but it is impossible to select it... It is grayed out...

Does anyone know how to solve this?

    I finally found out how. It is impossible to freeze the panes because Excel (for MAC) is in page layout mode instead of normal mode. Therefore, you need to select the "Normal" mode in the "View" menu. You will then be able to freeze the panes.

    Hi,

    First, click on an Excel cell located on the row from which you want to freeze.
    Then go to the menu you mentioned.

    Hello,

    In my wild youth, there was a scrollbar in Excel with a slider at the top of the vertical scrollbar and another one on the left of the horizontal scrollbar. By dragging these sliders, we could freeze title rows and columns. One or several of each, by the way...

    Ritchi, that is indeed what I do; I select a cell, or even an entire row, below the one I want to freeze (I've tried both cases). But when I go to the Window menu to select Freeze Panes, I can't because it's grayed out, so it's impossible to select...
