Unable to install canon mp620 via wifi

Hello,
I have Vista on my PC and an Inventel Livebox. I've been trying to install my Canon MP620 for 3 days now,
but despite a crappy email from Canon's customer service, I can't get it installed. It keeps asking me for the printer's IP address, which I can't find. No problem for the PC; I've tried using the association button while noting the WEP key of the Livebox, but nothing works. In my opinion, to install it, you need to be a network engineer. Customer service seems aware that most users are unable to set it up wirelessly. I'm very unhappy that I bought it. I wanted to use it wirelessly, and it's really not working well. Does anyone know where to find the IP address of this printer and how to enable this wireless connection?

    I have exactly the same problem on XP service pack 2. I have a Freebox, wanting to switch to a wifi printer, I bought 2 wifi dongles (for my 2 computers), thus killing two birds with one stone, switching to wifi for internet as well. However, the installation for internet went perfectly. My internet connection works in wifi, but for the printer, it doesn't recognize either of the 2 computers, they only recognize it when connected via USB cable, but the problem is that I bought this printer to obviously benefit from the wifi...
    I can't establish the connection from that famous page on the printer's IP address, I've tried with or without firewall (you never know ^^), using automatic or manual address, nothing works on either of the 2 computers...

    Could someone help me out and at the same time help "us" = )

    Thanks in advance, I'm really struggling here, I'm going around in circles...

      I just bought a Canon MX860 WIFI printer
      I have the same problem with my printer. I can't configure it via Wi-Fi. Actually, it says "no USB Wi-Fi key detected." If I understood correctly, the Wi-Fi is built into this printer; we shouldn't need to buy a separate Wi-Fi key, right? It's complicated, I don't understand any of this. Can someone help us? That would be really nice.

        Same for me, following the instructions I get to the window where all the detected networks are listed, including the Freebox. I need to enter a network key. I enter the one from the printer (which can be found in the printer menu in the network section), it searches for a while and then finally shows a message like: the printer is not detected. What key should I enter? The one from the Freebox (MAC) is useless as well.
        I’m open to any ideas...

    I managed to solve the problem!!! Hallelujah!!!
    I'm with Free. So I used my Freebox in router mode. Then I applied the WPA(TKIP) protection for the WIFI.

    On free.fr:
    --> My account (enter username and password)
    --> Internet
    --> Configure my Freebox WIFI network

    You restart the Freebox. Then you search for your Freebox through the printer. Don't forget the WIFI password.

    And miracle, it worked!
    In fact, I was in WEP mode, and it seems that the Canon does not accept this mode.

    I believe it's the same principle with other providers.

    I'm sure this will help more than one.

    I am in the same situation; I have a Canon MP640 printer connected to a computer by cable (direct USB or Ethernet via my Freebox), and I would like to connect it via WiFi to another computer in the house. I am trying to connect the other computer via WiFi by following all the procedures described in the manual and even more. But I can't connect it. The entire installation goes smoothly, but when it comes to printing, it indicates that the printer is not responding.

      I succeeded by saving the network settings of my Neufbox on a USB stick and then on the Canon MP620 printer. You need to go to the settings: wireless settings/WCN and then plug in the USB stick. The printer reads it and everything works.

    Same problem with a MacBook and the MP620B. It's been a hassle for a week...
    Impossible to communicate with the printer.
    It works perfectly via USB, but it's impossible to change the network settings.
    In the existing settings, there is no IP address.
    And the menus offered are quite cryptic, not to mention the documentation is terrible (it's unclear which screen is being referred to, the printer's or the computer's, and it mentions configuration by entering a PIN code without explaining where and how to enter it).
    In short, I do not recommend this printer. It may have good features, but the setup is too complicated, and the documentation is poorly made...

    Good evening everyone
    I am in the same "jam" as many of you. I am on an HP Pavilion laptop, running 32-bit Vista, plus a Livebox. I can't even get past the printer recognition!! I have connected the printer via USB, as the manual requests, in order to then set it up to work via WiFi (already illogical for me, but anyway, let's move on!!). The PC finds the access point, but when I enter the WEP key for the Livebox, nothing is found!! On the small screen of the printer, I see the Livebox (wireless network settings list), and the connection is inactive!!
    Help me and the others too!!!
    P.S.: a birthday gift for my mother-in-law, which we wanted to be as simple as possible, WiFi, without cables, without doing anything.... what a poisoned gift....

      If it can help someone, I managed to solve it, but not thanks to CANON, whose documentation is really lousy. Here’s a summary:
      1. I am on macOS Snow Leopard, but I assume the problem is quite similar with other OS
      2. I connect the printer to the computer with a USB cable (which wasn’t provided...a standard USB printer or scanner cable was used)
      3. I launch the software provided by Canon for installation, Canon Network Utility I believe (I came home and I am on Linux, I don’t remember the exact name)
      4. During the installation, I specify that I want to install the MP620 on a network, which allows me to load my network settings onto the printer (network ESSID and WAP key).
      5. I complete the installation as expected, by unplugging and rebooting. It now appears in my list of installed printers.
      6. I try to print and the printer still doesn’t recognize the WIFI network.
      7. I attempt to install the printer with the MAC utility, without connecting it via USB, choosing network printer, and it recognizes it.
      8. The printer works PERFECTLY in wifi!!!!

      There you go, if this can help to understand, it might avoid other troubles (I spent quite a few hours on this, and I am not a novice in computing).

    Hello,

    I have the same problem, I have an mp560, it works great with the cable, but without the cable, I'm trying to set up the printer using the menu directly on the printer, it detects my wifi network, I enter the correct WEP key, but the printer tries to connect to the network for 2 minutes and ends up indicating:
    "Error
    Failed to connect to the access point.
    Check the access point settings and try again"

    I have tried several times by changing the settings of my Freebox, but nothing works. If you have a solution, I’m all ears.

      Hello everyone,

      I just bought a MacBook Pro and a MP620 printer, and I want to mention that I’m with Free.
      I struggled for 10 days, it was a nightmare, and actually, it’s quite simple.
      The first step is to configure the Freebox as a "router"; you just need to check the box "enable router" and restart the Freebox. I hadn’t done that, and it wasn’t working.
      Then, you need to download the network utilities 270 drivers from the Canon website and then follow the manual installation by connecting the printer via USB and choosing installation through "network connection."
      Then follow the rest of the user manual.

    It also works in WEP mode! To do this, go to the administration interface of your Livebox (in my case) on Free it should be the same; in the configuration of the associated devices, you need to DISABLE MAC address filtering and apply this setting. The printer will find the Livebox by itself. Don't forget of course to press the button 1 on the back of the Livebox to enter association mode. Otherwise, it won't work... Have a good day without USB cable...

    I bought a Pixma MP560 but I couldn't connect it either via Wi-Fi or via the USB cable, which the computer indicates it does not recognize. I am subscribed to Free and I have Windows XP. The documentation provided by Canon was of no help to me. Does anyone have a solution? Thanks for the help!

    Hello everyone! Having had the same connection issues when changing my livebox, I spent 2 hours trying to get my printer and box to communicate using the Canon IJ Network Tool with no results... I finally decided to reinstall everything (drivers, software, etc.) and follow the connection procedure during the installation: the connection was made very easily! Therefore, I can only recommend reinstalling EVERYTHING and following the procedure to achieve a valid Wi-Fi link... Good luck.
