Disappearance of toolbars in Word on Mac

I had the same problem and the simplest solution:
in the menu bar, click on:
view -> customize the toolbars and menus
you need to go to "commands" in the window that appears
scroll down in the dropdown menu on the left and click on: predefined menus
Then just drag what you are missing, e.g. "file," to your menu bar.

If the Customize commands from the Customize submenu (Tools menu) or Toolbars (View menu), or even if you don't see any customization menu or submenu at all, click on Other buttons Other buttons, at the end of the toolbar to access the Customize toolbars/menus command and restore the original settings of the menus.

Have you tried quitting Word and restarting it? And the Mac?

I think "View" is "Affichage"

Creating a toolbar
1. In the Tools menu, point to Customize, then click on Customize Toolbars/Menus.
2. In the Toolbars tab, click on New.
3. In the Toolbar Name box, type your desired name.
If you are using Microsoft Word, in the Save In context menu, click on the template or document where you want to save the toolbar.
4. Click OK.

In the Tools menu, I have nothing that corresponds to "customize the toolbars". I have
Thesaurus that opens the toolbars.
I right-clicked on an icon. "Customize toolbars and menu". I created a standard toolbar. There we go, it finally works. Thank you very very much!!!!

If you mean to say that you are also experiencing an issue with displaying menus in Word, it would be good to provide some additional details. On one hand, specify which version of Word you are using. On the other hand, mention what troubleshooting steps you have already taken (apparently without success) among those suggested in this thread.

In fact, in all recent versions of Word (since at least Office v.X), you can access the customization settings for toolbars and menus by right-clicking on a free space in a toolbar. Once there, you can select the menu bar or a toolbar and click the "Reset" button to restore things to their default settings.

If that doesn't work, it means there is corruption in the preference files. You should then delete those files (after quitting Word). Depending on the version of Word in question, it varies slightly but there are constants. On one hand, the "Normal" document, which will be found in ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office/User Templates/Normal.dotm for the last two versions, in ~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Normal for Word 2004. Then, the preferences related to Word in ~/Library/Preferences, particularly com.microsoft.Word.plist for 2008 and 2011 versions.

Logically, and if that was indeed your original problem (because now we are going off into assumptions), that should suffice.
