2 internet windows open at the same time

Question

Hello,

When I click on the "Internet Explorer" icon, SOMETIMES (not always) 2 windows open (with Google as the homepage for both).

Where does the problem come from and how can I make it so that only one window opens when I click on the icon? (I have Internet Explorer 8.)

P.S.: Please don't give me comments like "use Mozilla."

it's that you click too many times

No, I didn't click too many times; moreover, I even tried:
- from the Start menu, (it does the same for me)
- by clicking once on the icon and then pressing enter, (it does the same for me)
- and by right-clicking on the icon and then selecting open. (it does the same for me)

So it's not about the number of clicks, that's for sure...

No, there is no "Secondary Start Page," nor any expression that resembles it. I repeat that this doesn't happen all the time (most of the time).

I tried, but there are still 2 pages that sometimes open.
And on my other computer, I also have Google as my homepage and only one page opens, so I think the problem doesn't come from Google.
What could be the other causes of this problem?

I completely restored the system, reinstalled IE 8 but nothing works, still the 2 windows that sometimes open.

Click in the order on: Tools -> Internet Options ->  In the Home Page Section, check if there are not 2 startup addresses or else delete everything and type this https://www.google.fr/?gws_rd=ssl

Actually, I did some research on your antivirus. It's good, but are you using the free or the full version? Because it seems that the full version is more effective but it costs €19.95. Otherwise, if you prefer to stay on freeware, Avast antivirus is very good and it's free. You can also scan your files with it. Did the thing with the previous version work?

Woohoo !!  You go to a web page, in tools, internet options, and there you look in the homepage section, you probably have several pages listed!!  I had this problem that when I opened Google, I had it twice, and actually it was listed twice in the homepage lol

Hello Indeed, when clicking on IE, I had 2 windows opening at the same time. I tried a few solutions suggested online: no effect. And when going to INTERNET OPTIONS then GENERAL, I saw that I simply had 2 addresses entered... arriving, I don’t know how??? Anyway: I had: https://www.google.fr/ and https://www.google.com/ I deleted the .com address, then APPLY and it worked again.... until the next adventure. Schuuuuusss
