Realtek is the name of a manufacturer of computer components, especially sound cards and network cards.
The program in question is an audio driver (or a network driver depending on the situation), it acts as an intermediary between the user (you) and the sound card (or network card).

- REALTEK Gigabit and Fast Ethernet NIC Driver is a network driver
- REALTEK high definition audio driver is an audio driver

Salut, can I safely remove "Realtek RTL8102E Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC " from the list of programs without any risk???
I have a question: For some time now, I feel like my internet speed is slower, could it be because of my network card?? Are there any updates for my card??
-FairyNess: Is it just for sound?? Because I just happened to find in "Add or Remove": Realtek Gbe & FE Ethernet PCI-E NIC Driver and I see Ethernet!! Ethernet isn't for sound?? Thanks for Everest!

-pico.l: I have no problem, it's just that I want to know what it's for and how we can find out which one we have as Realtek!
Did you see the link I posted?
So it's a driver with integrated Audio or network chipset. To find out, you can use Everest Ultimate or go to Device Manager >>> right-click on the device >>> properties >>> Details.
Realtek is the largest manufacturer of integrated audio chipsets and integrated network interfaces

-pico.l: Are there no updates for my network card?? Regarding your link, the first part, it doesn't concern me since I use a cable, except for the phone line, it's possible that it's not in good condition, the second part, I don't think I have viruses because I run scans every week, I have 4GB of memory, I have more than half of the hard drive space free and it's in good condition, I don't have many add-ons! So I suppose it's because of the cable! The third part, my internet speed is slow on all the sites!!!
I don't think your problem is related to the driver update; an older version (of the driver) should also work
Give the brand and model of the PC or the name of the motherboard

-pico.l: Oh okay, I just understood, that's what the network is! Well, now I want to know what it's for in the network!
If I sum it all up, Realtek is the largest manufacturer of integrated audio chipsets and integrated network interfaces, which allows for both sound and Internet, and Realtek RTL8102E Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC is my network card!! Is that right??
Each piece of hardware has its driver; in your case, the network driver (Ethernet) is a Realtek RTL8102E Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC
If I have a program labeled "REALTEK Gigabit and Fast Ethernet NIC Driver," it's not for sound but for the internet.
Now, since 07/2009, when the software was installed, the environment may have evolved on this old XP that has been enduring since 2002, resisting new versions and memory-hungry updates and gadgets...
I want to know if this old thing (Realtek... NIC Driver) can be replaced (while still staying on XP of course, the computer belongs to a family member who would hardly accept an unjustified migration).
