incorrect session login type issue Solved

Question

Hello, I present to you my issue: I have 2 PCs, a desktop and a laptop.
Both are connected by an Ethernet cable to a hub, and I also have a Freebox connected to this hub. The router function of my Freebox is activated.
I receive internet very well on my desktop. In the network favorites, I can see the icon representing my laptop, but when I click on it, I get a message saying there is a session opening failure, the user does not have the type of session opening requested on this computer! I must admit I have tried everything (uninstalling firewalls, setting up the home network using the wizard...)
Both PCs can see each other with pings; the laptop can access the content of the desktop, but not the other way around!

Well, I had the same problem and after countless searches and endless attempts, I finally found the solution to this issue, maybe it will work for you...
In fact, it’s not a matter of whether to enable guest accounts or not (I had already tried that in vain…), on my PC the guest accounts are disabled and yet others can now access my PC...

Here’s the procedure to follow (to be performed on the PC that cannot be accessed):
Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Local Security Policy
Then expand “Local Policies” and click on “User Rights Assignment”.
Next, just double-click on “Deny access to this computer from the network” and there I had something displayed with numbers and letters, and hallelujah “Guest”, just select that one and click on delete, confirm everything, and normally, it should work…

Hi everyone!!!!
I have a problem that is very similar to this one, I have 2 PCs with integrated Ethernet cards on the motherboard (Via). I formatted both of them not long ago, and they both run under XP Home. I tried to set up my network as usual with a crossover cable, and to my surprise, I can't share files or printers, but the connection sharing works perfectly.

I don't understand anything at all. On the host PC, when I try to access the client, it says "access denied" and from the client PC to the host, it says: "unable to log on: the user does not have the type of logon requested by the computer."

Please help me, otherwise I think the PCs are going to end very badly lol.

Little info: In Ping, everything works, the guest account is enabled on both PCs, and I have tried most of the advice from the forums (I've done them all!!!) so if anyone has the solution... And also, if anyone knows if "Local Security Policy" exists under XP Home, I would also appreciate that.

I found a solution for XP Home that works for me.

And let's be honest, the solution was found on forum.prence.pc

"The problem is that the machine with XP that we can't access is new and therefore there have never been any shared files... The solution is to share any file on that machine..."

I shared a folder from the incriminated machine (the "shared folder" folder, why not) and since then, no more issues.

Small info for those still struggling, here’s another solution:

With Windows XP Pro, the solution is simple:

1 - Open the Control Panel, open "Administrative Tools" then "Local Security Policy"

2 - Select "Local Policies" and then "User Rights Assignment" in the left pane tree

3 - Modify the policy "Access this computer from the network" by double-clicking and adding the user(s) you allow to access the PC over the network (including the "Guest" account).

With Windows XP Home, the solution is more hands-on:

1 - Download "rktools" from the Microsoft website

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=9d467a69-57ff-4ae7-96ee-b18c4790cffd&displaylang=en.

2 - Install the tool collection

3 - Go to the "Start" menu, "Run," type "cmd" (without quotes) then "OK"

4 - Type:

To allow the "Guest" account to access this computer from the network: "ntrights +r SeNetworkLogonRight -u Guest" (without quotes) then "OK"

To deny the "Guest" account access to this computer from the network: "ntrights -r SeDenyNetworkLogonRight -u Guest" (without quotes) then "OK"

To avoid typing errors, copy the command line and in the "cmd" window, right-click then paste.

And there you go...

Hello, cool tricks. For local strategies, simply type secpol.msc in "run" or better "mmc.exe" then "add snap-in", select from the list what interests you but be careful anyway ;)

hello hello. Thanks for all this info!!!  Personally, I had the issue since an XP Home trying to see a Vista (the first one via Ethernet and the second one via Wi-Fi, all on the router function of the Freebox V5)  Well, I can be an idiot sometimes!!! After trying everything, the XP kept sending me the infamous message about opening...  In fact, it was just (after configuring the Windows and Norton firewalls) in the Network and Sharing Center, the password-protected sharing that was enabled!!!  This serves to filter users who already have an account on the Vista PC! And since I don't have the same user account on my Home, I couldn't access it!!!  Well, it's not far from dyslexia, but it can help!!!  See you later!

Well, I say bravo. Nice solution! For those who are interested, the thing with numbers and letters is the SID (unique identifier of an account). This kind of "thing" appears in Windows (NT, 2000, XP, and Vista) when the system has lost or cannot find the link between this identifier and a Windows account (domain as well). So if you create an account and use it to grant rights, if you then delete it, even if you create a new account with the same name, those rights are lost. There you go for a bit more detail...
