Hello,
I accidentally opened a .odt file with Notepad. It is now unreadable and I no longer have access to the original .odt file. How can I read it?
Thank you for responding, it's quite urgent.
Best regards
Configuration: Windows XP Firefox 1.0

Have you checked the extension of your file? Because when opening it with a notepad, the file extension might have changed!
When you mentioned the initial file .obt, was the "." a mistake on your part or is there actually a dot at the end of the extension? If so, then remove it and your problem will probably be resolved!
To display file extensions:

Tools
Folder options
View
Uncheck the box "Hide extensions for known file types"

I tried to change the file extension back to .odt, but it opens with OpenOffice with the same incomprehensible cabalistic symbols, and I can't currently go back to the original .odt file. What should I do?
Thank you for your response; the "." after odt was a "." of punctuation.
Best regards.

I would like to clarify that I only have the unreadable file on my USB drive that was opened with Notepad and saved that way.
Is there a way to make it readable?
Thank you

Otherwise, you just need to back up your data on the drive and then format it, and in principle, this file will return to its original state.

Thank you, but it has never been saved on my USB drive as an ODT file. So it doesn't work. The question is, I have an unreadable Notepad file in front of me; can I make it readable (what process?) since the information is there
(I hope) but unreadable.
Thank you very much, and I'm sorry to insist, but it's really urgent.

It changes everything!
I thought it was a file that was on the USB drive since it was purchased, but apparently it's a file of yours :/

Did you have the "Always create a backup copy" option activated? in "Uploads & Recordings"

There is a backup directory in the user folder, which, with a bit of luck, contains the second-to-last backup copy.

Thanks, I'll try all that and if not, too bad, it'll wait!
