hum non non, le update ne prend pas d'argument...
essayez ceci :
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sinon au pire, peut-être qu'en désinstallant compiz puis en le réinstallant ça marchera, mais rien n'est moins sur... si malgré toutes ces manips, ça ne marche toujours pas, j'ai bien peur d'être dans l'incapacité de vous venir en aide... :(

J'en suis pas sur, mais peut etre que compiz est différent selon les versions.
J'ai la 8.10, et j'ai la déformation du bureau 3D, mais pas l'aquarium, juste des rouage dans le cube.

ah, pourtant tu devrais l'avoir puisque c'est la version actuelle d'ubuntu, j'ai un cd de knoppix sous la main et dans kompiz ya l'aquarium... =?

Depuis Hardy,il faut installer Compiz depuis les sources GIT:
http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=259077&p=1
Le script d'installation est intuitif et facile a suivre :)
Tu auras la toute dernière version de Compiz et de ses plugins (ça fonctionne depuis Gutsy aussi)

Oui la compilation est assez longue,c'est normal ;)
Et oui,ça peut arriver que les fenêtres se désactivent,puisque le script désinstalle l'ancienne version de compiz et réinstalle la nouvelle.
Si tu veux avoir tes bordures de fenêtres,désactive compiz momentanément et reviens a Metacity.
