How to play in Debugging mode on Sims 2?

On various forums and all over the internet, I’ve heard about a code for Sims 2 that enters debugging mode, a mode that provides lots of opportunities.
I am naturally curious and would REALLY like to try this mode.
I’ve heard that it has some bugs, so please don’t respond with messages like “No, we won’t give you the code, it causes too many bugs,” thank you, I don’t plan to use it permanently, but I’d like to try it and see what opportunities it offers.
So, my problem is that I’ve looked everywhere online to find out how to enter debug mode.
I found the dailysims site that offered a very clear explanation.
I tried to enter the code BoolProp testingCheatsEnable true when opening my game. Then, in my families, as it said to do, I right-clicked my Sims and objects while holding the shift key, but nothing happens. Same in Create a Family mode, I tried Shift+n to activate debugging mode as I was supposed to do. A message is supposed to appear saying that the mode is activated. But nothing.
After failing to enter the code myself, I tried a second technique explained on dailysims. I created a Notepad file on Windows, in which I wrote BoolProp testingCheatsEnable true. I named the document userStartup.cheat and placed it in the folder My Documents/EA Games/Sims 2/Config. This technique is supposed to ensure the code activates automatically when I open my game. Again, NO results.
I would like to know what I’m doing wrong? Or if there is another technique I could use?

I had the same problem as you with this code that wasn't working. But one day I tried entering the code and after entering it, I held down the shift key and then did a left click on my sim with my mouse and to my great surprise, it worked. I think you might have made a mistake and that you need to press the shift key first and then at the same time left click on your sim or on the journal...etc...

I imagine that like me, you have probably moved on to The Sims 3, but still, I want to help you! Here is my information:
To activate the cheat code, go to the neighborhood of your choice. Then open the cheat bar (Ctrl + Shift + C) and enter like this:
boolProp testingCheatsenabled true
Then, go to one of your families, select a Sim, and Shift + Right-click on a Sim. This will unlock interactions; be careful, some may be more or less risky, and one piece of advice, NEVER touch forcerror, your saves will be erased and your Sim will literally disappear... A bit like a death...
Next, you also mentioned doing Shift + N, which is not wrong, but it is for Create a Family mode. It’s very simple, repeat the same maneuver, neighborhood of your choice, cheat bar, then boolProp testingCheatsenabled true
Then go to Create a Family, in the box reserved for the last name, press Shift + N, then create your family, and you will unlock numerous outfits, more or less weird (example: a funny outfit + a pink flower necklace from Hawaii)... You also unlock the 'model' and 'alien' skin colors.

You need to type Boolprop testingcheatsenabled true in the cheats bar, and in the character creation interface, while creating one, you press shift+N (for me it only works with the left shift), and there you'll have all the NPCs' clothes, vampire skins, etc... During the game, keep the Shift key pressed and click on a sim, an object, etc... (don't try the right Shift, it doesn't work).
Afterward, I recommend creating a test family before using the code, because there are a lot of options, some of which are quite buggy. Enjoy the game.

-scroll down and you'll see an image divided into four parts;
-click on it;
-download it and extract it;
-place the heart icon on your desktop for easy access;
-click on that heart icon;
-a window with the same image opens;
and there you have four parts:
- The woman seen from behind => red cross: censorship activated / green check: censorship deactivated
- The striped living room => red cross: objects rotate 90° / green check: objects can be positioned diagonally (then use the keyboard keys . and , to rotate the objects, using the mouse doesn’t work)
- The flower pots => red cross: objects stick to the grid / green check: objects can be placed anywhere on the grid.
- The head with many options => red cross: debugging mode is disabled / green check: debugging mode is activated.
