Twilight : Canadian version or French version?

Hello,

Sorry if my question shouldn't be asked here.

I live in Belgium and I went to see Twilight at the cinema. Apparently, in Belgium, the version is Canadian.

It seems to me that this is the Canadian version (dialogue that I don't like).
But the movie I saw doesn't have exactly the same voices and the dialogues are different.

Could someone clarify this for me?

P.S.: I went to the cinema in Tournai.

No, the trailer you found is the French version that we saw in the cinema. I saw the Canadian version at a friend's place in Canada, and the voices are a thousand times better, and there's much more emotion shared with the audience. I just bought the film in Belgium, and I assure you that it really disappointed me; the dialogues are awful, and the voice actors convey no emotion at all.

I completely agree with you. I saw the movie in Ath, Belgium, Canadian version, and I bought the collector's edition, but it's the French version that I hate, so I watch it in its original version or I watch the one I recorded, Canadian version. I hope they will release the DVD in the emotional and correctly translated version, so Canadian version, lol.

So I went to see him in Belgium and France, and the trailer you posted is neither French nor Canadian. Let me explain; it's a quick VF they did, but a lot of fans didn't like the voices or the language, so they redid it...

I MUCH prefer the Quebecois translated version to the original in VOSTFR ;-))

First, the translations are based on international French... while the French version is based on French French with expressions that are completely non-universal!

Work, girl, music, etc. mean nothing to the majority of Francophiles outside of Europe.

Especially "work"... it means NOTHING to 99.9% of North American French speakers! ;-)

Euh Hanine, the "international" French originally comes from the French of "France," and the expressions are not universal; they are just different from one country to another or from one continent to another.

An international language means, first and foremost, that it is understood everywhere on the planet. Everyday French, therefore today, used in France contains expressions and phrases that are incomprehensible to outsiders. Generally, French versions no longer take into account the realities of everyone for an unspoken (perhaps) purpose of assimilating other cultures. Not to mention the excessive use of English expressions that have become outrageous. For example, Anglicisms and incomprehensible terms: cookies (biscuits), addiction (dependence), taf, taffe, de suite (from the term tout de suite), etc. Moreover, translations from France often do not consider lip-syncing. Perhaps the sales strategy (and not marketing!!!) is that in France, they expect the buyer to rush in, whereas in Quebec, they go towards the buyer... Not to mention that the French accent is also tiring to hear.

Yes, so where can we find or buy the Canadian version online? Is there a title or something that indicates it to us because in the aisles there are only French versions!! :/ lame

Hello, the French streaming version is totally different for the voices. They are gorgeous, especially Bella and Robert's. And there’s also much more emotion.

Heyyy to answer your question ..
1) The trailer you linked is a French version made before the movie was released and there isn't a full Twilight movie with those voices and dialogues (thank goodness because seriously the voices are terrible and the dialogues are "vulgar"). Those voices were only created for the trailer

2) Indeed in Belgium it's the Canadian version --' .. I also live in Belgium. I don't like it much because I've read the books and the dialogues are not the same.

The DVD that will be released will be in French .. so it might shock you if you've already watched it several times in the Canadian version ^^. I don't like this version but I keep watching it because the other one hasn't come out yet.

What you say is true! ^^ I watched the French version in the cinema in Charleville-Mézières (Ardennes) and I was shocked by the version in the link.... and I don't like the Canadian version too much either; it is also, at times, "vulgar" ^^ much less than the version in the link but still a bit ^^......

I don't understand, in Brussels we haven't had a Canadian version (for any of the films I've seen in theaters). Luckily for me, by the way; I can't stand this way of putting apostrophes everywhere (I scared the crap out of you) and using slang words or overly vulgarized terms. :/

I had downloaded the movie on my computer. And it was the Canadian version. I didn't know, I watched it before it was released in theaters in France (I counted, I saw it 23 times ^^). Then I noticed that the voices were not the same when the trailer played on TV. I bought the DVD and watched it and I noticed that the tone of voice was different. In French, Edward's voice is calm, sweet... whereas in the Canadian version it's less so. It really changed a lot for me and I'm having a hard time getting used to it because the dialogues are not the same either. What can I do to get accustomed to it?! ^^

Cécile! The French voices are anything but cheesy, and besides, the official version is the French Version, so it has nothing to do with the Canadian version, which, by the way, is unpleasant to listen to. :)

Almost all the actors have girly voices! ;)
But hey, I respect everyone's preferences :)
For me, nothing beats a good movie in original version with subtitles, but I know there are some who can't keep up when there are subtitles ;)
And besides, the official versions aren't always the best! :D

I don't know if you noticed, but in the baseball scene...
Edward gives Emmet a "middle finger." It's when Carlisle Cullen pitches, and Edward and Emmet collide in mid-air trying to catch the ball, and Edward says, "I got you," and if you look closely, he's also flipping him off at the same time xD

Yes, well, I'm the same "I LOVE THE VC" but come on, let's not exaggerate about the VF. It has its flaws, but it's not that bad. It's still good; there's a big gap between the two, so there you go.

Yes, you shouldn't exaggerate either. The French version also has its advantages compared to the Canadian one! :)
But there are fewer! :p
In fact, the things I criticize about the French version are its attempts to have "Frenchified" (I know it doesn't mean anything! x) ) certain dialogues!
Like in the baseball scene, when James's clan arrives, Alice shouts "stop" and you can see it on her mouth. Well, you can read it, you know! ^^ And in the French version, she says "Temps mort"! It's so stupid... Why not just say Stop? --" Because the French say temps mort in baseball!

And when Bella has just been "attacked" by the guys in Port Angeles and in the car Edward asks her to distract him and she says, "You should put on your seatbelt!" In the VC, he replies, "You should put on your seatbelt!" while laughing and making fun of her, whereas in the VF he says, "It's you who should put it on," in a completely neutral tone, while you see Rpattz laughing in the car... it breaks the whole thing a bit, I think! ^^

I also think that the original version (OV) is much better than the dubbed version (DV), but I like the latter as well, and the lyrics aren't "bad." It's just that, from my point of view, the dialogues are better in the OV than in the DV, even though I find that a few small lines in the DV are better, even though I love all the lyrics in the OV. However, there are two moments that I don't like too much... In the DV, it's when Edward tells Bella in his room, "you should never have said that," and then he says, "you'll have to hang on, Spider Monkey" or something like that, and in the baseball scene where Emmett catches the ball and Rosalie says, "My Monkey Man" or something like that lol. I don't hate it, but I think it's better in the OV; it's cuter, I think, "You’ll have to hang on, my little monkey" :) But in the DV, some lines are simpler; sometimes it's clearer (even though in my case, I understand the whole movie lol), but it’s just a minor thing, nothing else, and I don’t criticize the OV for that.

Other than that, there are also two or three voices in the DV that I prefer, especially Bella's parents and Billy Black; they're just small details, but... there you go x) But I think the voices in the OV are great, more romantic, and I think (that's my opinion) that in the OV the lines fit the characters better, are sexier lol, and romantic as I said, plus we could say they have a bit of poetry lol (I'm getting carried away --') but there you go; they're very beautiful except for those little exceptions that I like when I also like the voices in the DV, but I think I’ve said everything about my point of view :D
So in conclusion, as I wrote in my first message, I PREFER THE OV A LOT "I LOVE YOU!!!!" lol there you go, and as I said earlier, I still like the DV, but long live the OV! :) bye kisses

I definitely prefer the Canadian version to the French version... For the voices, but especially for the dialogues, I liked those from the cinema better than the ones on the DVD :(

I prefer French voices for most movies, but that's because I'm French. Canadian voices are not bad, but the fact that you (if you are Canadian) pronounce names with an Anglo-Saxon accent is quite unpleasant for our French ears ^^
