unable to open messenger attachments

Question

Hello,
I'm using Messenger 6.2, and when someone sends me an attachment, I can't open it.
I click on download the file and nothing happens.
Does anyone have an idea of what could be the issue?

I checked, even by disabling the protections on the messaging, I can't open the attachments (I have Norton 2004)
actually, I can send or receive messages, the issue is only with the attachments

Hello,

have you checked the instant messaging protection from Norton if you have it.

In Norton 2005 I had to disable the instant messaging protection (Windows or MSN Messenger) in order to send programs or other instant calls like for having dial cam.

When your contact, online with you, decides to send you a file, there is in the window:
- information saying that they are planning to send you a given file..
- a clickable link accept to indicate that you agree..
From there, the download begins.. Display on the screen of the progress bar...
Default destination folder: My received files from My documents

excuse me, it's when I'm in my hotmail inbox and I have a new message with an attachment
I can open the message without any problem, but I can't access the attached file
I tend to get mixed up with instant messaging, hotmails and all the rest!!

It's just the attachments.. At first, I thought it was the messages that you couldn’t read at all.
You know that on hotmail, there’s an AV McAfee that checks the received files. The attachments were clean, from known sources... ??
I checked for my MSN account.. No problem... The files can't be opened on the site but are downloadable without issue...
After clicking on the attachment (names of the attached files mentioned above the message), do you reach the download button, where McAfee's "agreement" is mentioned...

Indeed, I get to the page where McAfee tells me no virus detected and I know the sender (plus, it's only pictures of a friend's children)
and it's on this page, when I click to download the file that nothing happens
I checked, it's not Norton because the attachments on Outlook come through without issue, and it's configured to let MSN through

when I right-click on "save as," it works, but the only catch is that it saves a screenshot?!
for now, I'm going to let it go; when there are attachments, I will ask for them to be sent to Outlook
I will eventually find the answer somewhere

It makes sense that you are just a capture.. Had to try..
For Outlook and (or) Outlook Express, it seems that their new policy is gradually being implemented. For free accounts, offsite retrieval is set to become paid. It is the most recently opened accounts that would be the first affected... starting from the first half of 2005.
