Problems with creating a chart in PowerPoint 07

Hello,
I have installed Office 2007 on my computer as well as Excel 2003. When I use PowerPoint 2007 and I want to create a chart directly in it, I get a message saying "To insert a chart, you must first close all open dialog boxes or cancel edit mode in Microsoft Office Excel." I have no choice but to click OK. Then a second window appears telling me "Some chart types cannot be combined with others. Please select a different chart type."
I have tried, but it’s always the same.
I am convinced that it comes from a conflict between Excel 2003 and PowerPoint 2007. But I don’t see what I can do. Does anyone have any idea for a solution...
There might also be a clue because when I open an Excel file (.xls), it automatically opens in version 2003 and not in version 2007. Maybe there is a solution to force it to open in 2007 and then PowerPoint will accept the creation of charts....
Thanks in advance
Titus

    Hello,

It seems clear to me that your problems are indeed coming from the version mix-up.
Have you tried inserting a graph while Excel is already open?

Otherwise, the simplest solution is to create your graph directly in Excel 2007 and copy-paste it into your PowerPoint.

One solution is to launch Excel 2007, leave it open in the background, and then create the chart from PowerPoint 2007.
