I spoke too quickly (see previous message), I played for at least 3 hours without it happening and it just happened again, oh well.

To remedy this problem, you need to delete all your temporary files.

Hi everyone, I have this fatal error problem! I changed my graphics card, I'm running with 512 MB of DDR RAM and the problem is still there! But I can play The Sims 2 for quite a while! However, when I choose a house to place it on the lot, it gives me a fatal error, so I build my houses myself!

Hello everyone!
I also have this problem "fatal error: the application will be closed."
When I want to play The Sims 2, I only get the opening animation and when I reach the loading screen, my computer crashes and the message appears.
Since everyone says I need to delete Download files, that's fine, but I don't have any.
My graphics components are as they should be, since the game was working just fine before. I uninstalled it and then reinstalled it, and since then I've been getting this message, so if someone has experienced this and knows how to resolve the issue, I would appreciate it if they could tell me how they fixed it, or if anyone has a little idea...
Thanks in advance.

Hi, I have another problem. When I install The Sims 2 (the 4 CDs), everything goes well, but when I install an expansion pack on top, all the walls of my houses flicker in red. Plus, when I install The Sims Seasons, the snow is red. I don't know what to do. Is it a computer problem or a problem with the game? I think I have the necessary configuration:

I have Windows XP Home Edition
Service Pack 2
AMD Sempron Processor
3000+
1.81 GHz, 448 MB of RAM
320 GB x 3

I don't think it's a problem with my graphics card because all my other games work fine. What could it be? Can someone help me?

Thanks in advance

Hi everyone.

When I launch the game, the title image appears and then it says "The Sims 2 has stopped working.
Windows is searching for a solution to the problem..." Why is this happening to me?
It doesn’t find a solution, can you help me?

PS: I'm on Vista, and I installed the Sims 2 patch anyway.

Hello, I also have the fatal error problem when launching The Sims 2. I've done everything you suggested, and everything seems to be in order on my computer, but it doesn't change the issue. However, I've noticed that my processor is 664 MHz, and I believe The Sims 2 requires more. Could this be the problem, and if so, how can I fix it?

I just bought The Sims magazine issue 7 and when I launch the CD on my computer, and I go to the houses, I click on it, I hit install, it takes me to a file and then I don't know what to do. Can someone help me? Thank you in advance.

HI,
I have a similar problem with The Sims 2 Pets. Before, it worked very well on my computer, but I had to reformat my computer. I reinstalled The Sims 2, it works fine, but The Sims 2 and Pets don’t work anymore. I can install it, the game starts, but after the intro cinematic I get a "fatal error" and the game crashes. I don’t understand what’s happening since it worked very well before I reformatted. I don’t have a downloads folder, so it’s not that. I don’t know where the issue comes from :(

Hello, I had the same problem, but I solved it ^^ Actually, the computer really heats up while playing, so I opened it up and cleaned the fan that had accumulated dust lol and there you go, no more problems ^^

Well, my problem is that when the loading of my game The Sims 2 starts, a window opens and announces a fatal error! I tried:
Defragmenting
Restarting my computer
And I had only 4 download files and I removed them
I deleted most of my projects

But I don't want to uninstall my game because I would lose all my families and my houses

I hope you can help me
Thank you in advance

Hello everyone ..
So here it is, I just discovered (after I don't know how many years I've had The Sims 2 ^^. Since its release, actually!) that you could download houses, clothes, hairstyles, furniture, etc. ..
Which I did!
Now, when I enter The Sims, I create a family but I don't have the clothes, hairstyles & makeup that I downloaded!! How come!?
Then when I click on the houses to add them to the neighborhood (the houses I downloaded) I get the message "FATAL ERROR. THE APPLICATION WILL BE CLOSED." =/
I deleted some files in Downloads but the problem is the same!
I want to play with what I downloaded!!! If I delete everything, will I never be able to play with what I downloaded?
Thank you for getting back to me as soon as possible ..
I'm really bummed out now, I was so excited about having new accessories & etc ..

Hello everyone,
This morning when I launched my game, I had the same problem. It makes me really angry because I have always been able to play The Sims 2.
I read everyone's responses, so I’ll share them again in hopes of helping a few:
- You need to delete all your downloads, so delete the Downloads folder
- Add more memory
- Defragment your disk (accessories -> system tools -> disk defragmenter)
- Or reformat your computer xD.

Personally, I’m pretty sure it’s because of my downloads, so I deleted all my unnecessary files such as download images, readme files... I don’t know if it’s going to work, but I hope so.
Kisses!

Hello wild flower,
could you explain to me how to completely uninstall The Sims 2 from the computer because apart from adding/removing a program I don't see how to do it.
Otherwise, I have the same problem as a lot of people since I got a new computer, "fatal error. The application will close."
Here are my new specs which are actually much more powerful than those of my old PC where the game never gave me the fatal error.

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E6850 3ghz (2 CPU)
RAM Memory: 2048 MB
Graphics Card: Nvidia Geforce 8500 GT 512MB
Motherboard: ECS 945 GCT-M2
DirectX 9.0c
Windows XP Service Pack 2
