Color photo to black and white conversion

Hello,
On Windows XP, I can't convert a color photo to black and white... I thought I could do it by performing the following operation:
Edit/Image/Attributes/Black and White... however, the message below appears:
"The conversion to black and white cannot be undone"... Even though I had checked the "Black and White" box...
Do you have any advice to give me???
Thank you in advance for your contribution...
Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 7.0

    You can see this very easy solution in CSS:

    Hello, use PhotoFiltre.
    And on top of that, you can do more things on PhotoFiltre (you can turn a photo into black and white)

    If you don't have it as just-mOii said, download Photofiltre, which is a free photo editing software: http://photofiltre.free.fr/index.html.
    Once the program is installed and launched, open your photo with it and click on filter, color, grayscale.
    There you go, @++

    I see... I can't partially give you the solution to your problem... I can suggest you go to PhotoFiltre... There, you can do whatever you want with all your photos... So???

    Hello,
    Here is a tutorial describing step by step how to convert a photo to black and white.
    This is the layer conversion technique that allows for very precise adjustments when converting to black and white using Photoshop.

    It is undoubtedly one of the best methods to achieve the desired result.
    The technique will be the same with PhotoFiltre.
