I have the Photofiltre software, but I haven't figured out how to do it :-)

Because I love photographing people, etc., but I don't have a plain or unpatterned wall at home, so it's a hassle..

a good free photo editing software: GIMP or Picasa without hesitation ;-)

You can do it with EnKoDeur-Mixeur as long as you took the shot of your character against a solid blue or green background (or another color provided that this other color does not closely resemble human skin tone... or one of the colors of the character's clothing in the shot).

After that, to overlay the background image(s) and the character whose background has become transparent (technically this is called compositing):

The foreground images are transparent (images WITH alpha channel). These are the ones of the character.

you need to use the copy-paste tool, which is particularly useful in your case
but you need to specify which software you have. If you're a beginner, it's relatively easy with Photofiltre.
